So what's with $5.99 at TRU?

Is this yet another example of the big box stores raising prices? or has M2 raised their prices a buck? Are they going to stay this way? Not so happy to find them this price at TRU last time I was in there.

I suspect it's TRU in action pricing wise. My local hometown Wal-Mart just restocked last Thursday with 3 different releases. The Drivers series were $2.97 and the regular Authentic and Muscle releases were $5 a piece.

Sean72 would be the one who could most likely confirm this.
Who says small cars don't hit hard?

TRU did the same thing with the TRU exclusive Greenlight Black Bandit Mustangs (1 of 2540). They started at $4.99 (people bought them), went to $5.49 (people still bought them), and finally at $5.99 they hung on the pegs until TRU marked the price back to $4.99. My local TRU sold the remaining Greenlight TRU exclusive Black Bandit Mustangs before Christmas ($4.99).

I asked the manager why the price was changed from $4.99 to $5.99. He said "As long as people are buying the product don't be surprised to see an increase in price".

TRU did the same thing with the HOT Christmas item (Zhu Zhu pets). In the summer Zhu Zhu pets were $7.99 at TRU. TRU raised the price to $9.99 because they knew people were paying a premium for them. WAL*MART (about 1 mile away) sold Zhu Zhu pets for $8.00, but they didn't get very many. I heard TRU bought in the Zhu Zhu pets company and got a big percentage of the production of Zhu Zhu pets.

The manager of TRU told me the company (TRU) is owned by 3 companies. You can't buy shares of TRU stock anymore. TRU bought his shares of TRU stock for $26 a share (he paid $7 a share). GOOD for him!

As for the M2 diecast, my local TRU raised the price to $5.99 from $4.99 last week. I don't think M2 raised the price to sell to TRU, but TRU is getting to be greedy in a poor economy. You wouldn't know the economy was bad looking at the people with shopping carts full of toys during the Christmas shopping season. The manager at TRU told me SALES WERE UP this season.

The Greenlight and M2 diecast were raised 20% in price. How many people get a 20% increase in their wages?

I don't mind paying money (even a premium) for something that I want, but I am more selective in my purchases now.

Rant over......time for a Heineken. ;)

The quantity of your diecast collection isn't as important as the QUALITY of your diecast collection

Thanks for the information, Ray. Much as it might hurt M2, a sort of hope sales go down so the price will follow. Christmas was very busy around here as well. I heard some statistics last month that over a million more people were out shopping this year over last year, but spending around $30 less per person on the average. That's got to be quite a boost to the economy...$30 less notwithstanding. It may be that very boost in sales that inspired price increasing. And if it worked last month, why not fool the public just a little more and see how it pans out. As much as I like to find product in retail stores, it's thinking like this that make ordering from OLDs more appealing at times.

New casting? Quick!! Take it apart!
These past two weeks at TRU, I've had a few M2's ring up at 5.99, when there were no price signs for ANY M2's, GL's or Shelby's etc.higher than 4.99 So I took a manager back to toys and showed her the pegs were in shambles, nothing stocked correctly, and no tag saying 5.99 anywhere. So I was given the 4.99 price. She said she needed someone to go through the whole aisle and fix things. A few days later I saw two young girls talking at the HW pegs, and one said she had redone this section (about ten pegs, that's all!), and it had taken hours, and she was "stressing out."
I didn't know if I should have felt sorry for her, or laugh out loud.
A few more days later, I saw that nothing more was done, and all the cars and prices were still mixed up. I'm just waiting for my next purchase and get the cars for less than the ring up, again. Always watch your prices vs. what they tag them.
I used to be a genius, but I found out it's a lot less work and more fun to be a redneck.

Good point, they can't charge you one price and have another one listed in the isle. Also, make sure you go back with any employee who checks a price. I've had people come up to the register later after they fixed their mistakes and lie about it.

Hey Fellas, we can only offer the MSRP (Manufacture Suggested Retail Price), the stores are free to sell the product for whatever they see fit.

It would be nice to see a clean and organized die cast section, but then again you might get lucky finding something misplaced.

Thanks,
Sean

Sean, what is the MSRP on the M2s?
For the Drivers line it's $3 and for Detroit-Muscle, Auto-Thentics & Ground Pounders it's $5.

Looks like they dropped back to $4.99 here. Nothing new on the pegs at TRU, but was nice to see the price come back down...at least for now.
