Here's an older Vega casting with a goofy oversized engine in it, which I replaced with a more sizable one... I'm glad to see they put a more normal sized engine in the newer one with the flames !!!

Image courtesy of JLCollector.com. Thanks Wyatt.

James, I don't have either casting.
Now that Stangfreak has posted his images here and I've thought about it; this casting was and still is in need of some changes.
The engine swap looks much better.
I also think that the casting is in need of a wheel swap.

Stangfreak, thanks for the images and more importantly thanks for sharing your handiwork.
Well done!

As for the #14 Vega, that is one casting that I will completely ignore.
It looks cheap and uninspring. It reminds me of HW and not JL.

Cheers. Cobra

HWs style Vega suits that #14 perfectly. I have to say that F64 r3 had some of the best detailing in any of their plastic based line. The Vega just makes me wonder what on earth happens from month to month at LC. They can have some nice little touches in one release that makes me think, "Okay, you really don't see this from Mattel, so the $2 seems justified. Then you see other releases that MB blows away on every level.

I think you can try too hard sometimes to please everyone. And maybe that's part of the problem here. I think if your going to sell a $2 car, set your sites on some of those finer details we see at times and leave it there. If the quality is apparent, people will buy it. If you're going to use the simplicity of certain Mattel cars as a model for JL, first of all, that's really not what JL fans want...and secondly, you better drop your price to a buck.

I've got that Chevelle police car. I think they did a nice job on the grill with that one. The red lights and the black wash work well. The rest of it is simple, but not in a terrible way. I haven't opened mine yet. I'm waiting for my next barrage of pictures to examine it better. There's an extra piece of plastic floating around in the blister. I can't see where it could've come from, but that might make for some interesting speculation later.

The Chevy Police car looks nice, to bad it isn't a 4 door, as most police cars were/are. The Vega is a big disappointment, as it is #14 which is a number I wanted as I was born on the fourteeth. But if and when I get one, I may be able to do something about that lack of detail

The Oldsmobile looks like it picked up some hubcaps at Wal-Mart.

LOL... double... That's exctally what I thought when I opened it up... That's funny !!!

And that Vega was a big disappointment to me too, It dosn't even set level... One side sits higher than the other... The 65 Chevy has problems with the hood... It don't even sit in with the rest of the body... I'm so sorry to say, but this the last of JL that I will plunk out a dime for !!!

Make that three of us then!

I actually like the Vega from this release. Nicest of this crop of cars in my opinion.
