Here's a simple yet effective police car version of the GSX.![]() I like the "To Serve and Collect" on the front fender. I also like that the light is mounted off to one side, rather than centered. ![]() Now if JL only the Lightning patrol boys would figure out if they used 4 door sedans as police cars, they could get their prisoners in the back with so much less hassle. ![]() And of course, the wheels are more sporty than police issue. Something I continue to have trouble with in their current series. We could argue that it's not a real police car, just a hot rod version made up by a police car lover, but that cheapens things just a little bit for me. This isn't the worst Lightning patrol car...crowding into the fantasy realm of HWs Roll Patrol as it is. Take it or leave it...you decide.

This is one casting I was actively collecting all versions of up till the 40th line started. My opinion of JL using this for a police cruiser is ho hum at best. You do have some nice pics Dragnet! |

Thanks, Crafty...trying to get a bit more light. I'm several months out of practice, and I was only beginning to cut the mustard before that with some halfway decent clarity. Some of my problems may be the camera itself, since it's not an overly expensive one. But I still blur up at least part of the picture getting in for extreme close ups. I veered away from getting too close here. Any pointers? |

Blurring of pics could be cause of a couple a reasons. One is lighting. A 2nd could be the background. If you look down in the O/T section, there is a stickied thread dealing with picture taking. http://swiftysgarage.net/topic/386165/1/ If you take a few of those pointers, esp the ones by Noir Guru, you should be in good shape.

DS, thanks for all the work that you have put into making these images available for our viewing pleasure. It is definitely appreciated. I bought this casting because I actively collect the 2006 JL 1970 - 71 Buick Skylark/GS/GSX casting #964. I know that it is basically a fantasy because in the real world back in that time frame, it would not have existed in a police livery; but it is still a welcome addition to my collection. I still can be a little boy and pretend. Thanks for sharing your pictures with the rest of us. Cheers. Cobra |

Nice pics Robert! I hope JL doesn't make anymore fantasy police cars. It would be nice to see some NEW police car castings from the '60's. |

I think there's a lot of lost oportunities for making some nice classic police cars. I don't like the fantasy cars as much as realistic police vehicles, but I don't mind them either. There are enough police graphics available to make decent generic type police vehicles that realistic values. I think JL needs to get off the Lightning patrol kick...or at the very least, make the LP look like it could be a real police force the MB does with their vehicles.

For starters, RC2 needs to add more 4-door sedans to its casting bank. Generally, cop cars seem to sell well. And most 4-door models can be issued as taxis, too. Taxis always seem to do well at retail. Since RC2 started using the Monaco casting more for DOH, they should also ressurect the Ford LTD casting.

Some nice cars, Mark. Where'd that green Desoto come from? Is that an older JL, or one that went over my head during the LC era? |

It's from American Heroes, release 2. I got the 6-car set on feebay for a great price a few years ago. It's really a cool release, IMO. http://jlcollector.com/ahr2.html |

Couldn't agree more with the statement about the Ford LTD casting. Would be great if they released this one in say the $2 line so it would be cheap for custom bait.
