This firm was founded by Henry Leland, who subsequently established Lincoln Motor Company ( which ironically became a primary competitor for sales with Cadillac for decades). Coincidentally, Leland had previously been associated with Henry Ford! The first Cadillac was almost a twin in body design to the early Ford. Cadillac was one of the first companies to become part of General Motors Corporation in 1909. The company is now the flagship division for GM. In 1927, GM introduced a less costly companion make that was sponsored by the Cadillac Division. Production ceased in 1940. Cadillac is recognized to have introduced the styling sensation of rear fender fins in 1949. Cadillac introduced their special personal car called the El Dorado / Eldorado in 1953 . It originally was introduced as a styling exercise in the traveling GM Motorama display. The first year of production featured a convertible body with a newly introduced wraparound windshield. Initially, these cars were almost considered as a submarque to Cadillac , since body designs differed from the production Cadillac . The most outstanding example appeared in 1957-1958 when the limited edition ( top of the line) Eldorado Brougham was introduced. This was a very expensive specially styled 4 door HT sedan. It featured a silver colored stainless steel roof among other extras for that era. The last El Dorado was produced in 2002 as a line model series in the Cadillac corral of highend products. Then in 1987 Cadillac offered a new 2 seater car called the Allante. Production continued on this limited edition Italian body produced by Pininfarina until 1993. The cost to import these bodies was too costly to enable profitable sales. Models in small scale of the mainline Cadillacs have been issued by Yat Ming, Tomica, M2 Machines, Siku, Racing Champions, Matchbox, Guisval, Maisto, Mini-Dinky, Ertl, Jada, Summer, Hot Wheels and more. A model of the Eldorado Brougham was issued in 2002 by Hot Wheels. Regular Eldorados have been replicated by Johnny Lightning, Goodee, Topper, Tootsietoy, Muky, HotWheels, Jada, Yat Ming, Racing Champions, Impy, Husky, Corgi Jr, Columbia Telecom, Playart and Mini-Lindberg (plastic) and possibly others. Allantes were replicated by Johnny Lightning, Matchbox and Majorette. Edited by DaWeber, Feb 6 2010, 10:54 PM.

I didn't know the JL Escalade came in white. I have the orange and a brown (I think), but the white looks the best. |
