Today's car of the day from harlans toys' collection and is Matchbox's 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix.

Wikipedia

The 1964 Grand Prix received only minor appearance changes from the '63 edition. Those included a revised grille with new "GP" logos and rear deck trim with new tailights, still hidden.

Revised upholstery trims highlighted the interior, still featuring expanded Morrokide vinyl bucket seats and console as standard equipment.

Engine offerings were mostly unchanged from 1963 except that the standard 303-horsepower 389 four-barrel V8 gained three additional horsepower (to 306) with the extra-cost Hydra-matic transmission. The standard three-speed manual and optional Hydra-matic transmissions were unchanged from 1963, however, a new GM-built Muncie four-speed available in either a wide-ratio M-20 or close-ratio M-21 options replaced the Borg-Warner T-10 unit.

A beautiful casting from the Lesney era, and another transitional piece. Truly this casting looks best in purple with these wheels. What a work of diecast art!

Support your local demo derby.

I'm sensing a vintage MB theme this week. Did this one at any point have opening doors to it?

some of the very early issues have been found with opening doors and one sold for a four figure sum if i remember correctly.
red sf versions have sold for over £4000.

this has to be one of my absolute favourite mb's in my collection and i remember it was one of the models i saw in a pic and just had to get one.
i now have 4. i was lucky enough to find one in an antiques centre for £1.00 and its in good displayable condition

I've never seen any purple models with opening doors, nor have ever heard of any. A very small number of opening door red ones are out there, and as Harlan mentioned, cost a LOT of money.

Shade variations: darker and lighter purple shades. It's the lighter one that Anthony and Harlan have displayed. I have the darker one.

It's like, all of a sudden, this model's become very popular, and very sought after. In the '90s, it wasn't any more legendary than any other transitional...
