This one is still a bit too much exposure, I think. Out of three tries with today's "On The Rocks" series, this (and other threads I strated todays, are the best so far.![]() I'm having trouble keeping both background and foreground in focus at the same time. Either i get the car clear, and the background is a total blur, or I get something like this, where the background is a bit blurry and the car is not as sharp as it could be. ![]() Not quite sure what i am doing wrong...just sort of winging it with various settings. Any photo guys with tips?

So this is Toyota's take on the Hummer eh? Cool enough in the normal line of Tomica. As for the pic tips, I'd respectfully say you need to take a look at your camera's manual to figure out the aperture settings and the macro function. If you are using those, your pics should look pretty decent. Rob or Jermaine could help you more in depth if you have further questions. |

Nice model! As for the pictures, let the background be blurry. On a picture like this the model should be the focus, not the background. |

I'm learning that. I thought there might be a way to bring the bkgnd more into focus than it was. I will attempt to add to my "On The Rocks" series when it stops snowing and see if I can improve upon my efforts

Never seen one of these before. As Zach said it's clearly Toyota's take on the Hummer. |

If you want it to be 50/50 on the subject and background, take the picture from a farther distance. Then crop the image to your desired size. Macro settings will always blur the background. Neat model, but so strange to see a Toyota trying to be American... |

Thanks for the advice Noir. On the rocks wave 2 will probably be coming next week and I'll try what you say, as well as looking for some better detailed close ups of the castings with the background blurred. Thanks for the kind words to those who have enjoyed my efforts so far. I'm just too much of a perfectionist to want to stop here. Of course, that'll mean a better camera in time. |
