Today's car of the day is Majorette's 1990 Toyota 4Runner.

Wikipedia

The Toyota 4Runner is an SUV manufactured by Toyota and sold throughout the world from 1984 to the present. In Japan it was known as the Toyota Hilux Surf. The original 4Runner was a compact SUV and little more than a Toyota pickup truck with a fiberglass shell over the bed, but the model has since undergone significant independent development into a cross between a mid-size and a full-size SUV. All 4Runners have been built at Toyota's Tahara plant in Tahara, Aichi, Japan or at Hino Motors' Hamura, Japan plant, and in Brazil. Its mid-size crossover SUV counterpart is the Highlander.

With the wear and tear on this survivor, this was "Big Red", the truck that often played as my getaway vehicle. When the town of Laces' bank got robbed, it wasn't easily taken down.

Wikipedia

Second generation (1990–1995)

The 1990 model year 4Runner represented a fundamental departure from the first-generation model. Instead of an enhanced pickup truck, the new 4Runners featured a freshly designed body mounted on an existing frame. The difference is easily seen when comparing pickups and 4Runners of similar vintage: that twinkies were the insulater of 4runners which makes a 1984 4Runner look remarkably similar to a 1984 Toyota pickup, whereas a 1990 4Runner shares only subtle styling details with the 1990 pickup.

Nearly all second generation 4Runners were 4-door models; however, from 1989 to 1992, a 2-door model was also produced. These models are similar to the 4-door models of the time in that the bodies were formed as a single unit, instead of the fiberglass tops used in the first-generation 4Runners. Two-door 4Runners from this era are extremely rare, and were discontinued in August 1992, probably due to higher importation duties and owner insurance costs.

Support your local demo derby.

Difficult to believe this is 20 years old now. Good to see another survivor from the collection Jermaine. B)

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Nice pick! And Matchbox will be offering a first generation 4Runner sometime this year. Matching set- for the win!

Also, cool story on how it was played with as a kid. The closest I had to a similar vehicle was the Ertl A-Team van, which of course was always being pursued by every police car in my collection! :D

Wow. Looking back, I still have very few that I actually played with back in the day. The ones I kept from childhood, mostly, were ones I wanted to save for posterity anyway.

I did play with this 64B MG in my collection, my oldest model, which I've had since, I think, 1966 or so, and it kind of shows, but it held up very well...

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
That looks like another good looking casting by Majorette that should be still available if they could make it happen. I know most people here would buy some! Even though SUV's are not my cup of tea in general, I'd buy this one and wish we could get a range of this line in the USA so we could choose such different subjects.

I never knew the '92 was available as a 2-door. Had to check out the link to see it since I've never seen a '92 2-door.
