Picked up 3 of those today... Along with 3 81 Chevy Malibus, and 3 87 Monte Carlos... I was there when they put up the new display... All the other ones I left... The other castings were a 65 Chevy Impala convertible Black with flames, The 70 Nova casting with a green engine and white wheels (not a WL) a orange 70 Camaro with white stripes, (looked pretty cool, nice cragar mags, "no money left") a yellow 70s Vette with ugly wheels, a black 70 Cuda with ugly wheels, Those and the rest I can't remember were just not my style...
What's with the green tires ?

Lightning Strike- it's like a WL but limited to just a few cars in a given release. I think, to date, the traits are always different colored wheels.

According to Tom Z, Lightning Strikes are 1% of production, same as White Lightnings.
A Lightning Strike is a regular, with colored tires. White Lightnings may have multiple differences from a regular, white tires, rims, base, body color, interior, etc.

I was under the impression that LS's were a percentage of WL production and thus, ultra rare.

Apparently many are under that impression. Look at the Strike selling prices on the bay, typically 1 1/2-10 times the price of the respective WL. Some sellers will perpetuate this myth, and even make up their own numbers to enhance their goods.

Everyone can draw their own conclusions on this, but I"ve done some research before forming my opinion. I got my info in a thread elsewhere where we were asking Tom Z of JL about this very issue. The 1% WL, 1% LS was his response. Until I hear different from an equally reliable source, this is what I have to believe.

I'm with you on your opinion Rick.

The WAL*MART exclusive chase cars are HOT at the present time, and are bringing nice money on eBay. I wouldn't be surprised if 100 or more WLs and LSs were made for the JL castings that had were made as a WL or LS. I wonder what the production was for each casting? If 4000 sidekicks were made (each containing 3 of each of the 12 castings), production would be 12,000 for each of the 12 castings. (1% of 12,000 = 120 WLs, but I wonder about the LSs made). If the LS production is the same as a WL (1%), I think prices will go down in time. The rubber tire WL and LS for the WAL*MART exclusive cars ROCK! I think the rubber tire WL and LS cars will always be desireable. (especially the '69 Camaro RS ZL-1)

As for me, I'd rather have a WL from a production run of 2500 (1% of 2500 = 25 WLs made). The JL cars had metal bases back then too.

I also agree with the comments posted above on current WL and LS production by Bray.
In the bginning, there were a few Lightning Strike castings that were ultra rare but that all changed.
If a person watches JL castings for sale on e-bay regularly, I am sure that in instances where there were WL and LS chase versions of a casting from a particular release you will find that the numbers found are probably close to being equal.
Also has Rick has politely pointed out, Tom Z from LCB has actually confirmed the numbers on another diecast board. I have read that post, too.

Cheers. Cobra

Sounds to me like if you don't carry a list of WL traits, finding these cars will be very confusing as to what's what. No doubt LC's plan of action.

Just a wild guess here, using the last list of WM that would carry JL that Tom posted shows
around 2,450 stores.and at 1 sidekick per store makes 7350 sets, could be more could be less.
