I couldn't resist getting this one also- you'd think JL would bite the bullet (pun intended!) and just cast a decent '68 Mustang. Their original leaves a lot to be desired, which is probably the reason it hasn't made an appearance in almost a decade.

Does Racing Champions/ERTL have a decent version of a '68 Mustang fastback?
That is probably the only way that you will see a "new tool" '68 Mustang fastback casting come out under the JL brand.

Thanks for the pictures, Stangfreak.

Cheers. Cobra

Nope- just the '68 Shelby they retooled to make a Mustang for their own Bullitt release. It was way too big, and way too Shelby.

I need this one for my growing collection of Mustangs. I don't know what it is. I'm not a Ford guy. The Mustang just translates well in die cast at almost any scale.

Okay...wataminnit. You guys are saying this is a Bullitt mustang, Snow Owl over on HT has also shown a picture of the mustange from the Spencer For Hire TV show...and this one looks pretty much the same. So the questions is, Did Spencer drive a Bullitt rip-off?

I snagged one anyway...a HOW is a HOW...but the two cars do look remarkably alike.

Spencer drove a Bullitt rip-off. "Bullitt" dates to 1968 (with a '68 Mustang) while "Spenser: For Hire" drove the '65 in the '80s.

Or perhaps JL was trying for a "Bullitt" look with the closest casting they have and hit the Spenser car accidently? Take your pick! ;)

 Thanks, Sean. I never watched Spencer, as it fell into a time after I stopped watching most TV shows. I've seen a few snippets back in the day, but couldn't tell you what he drove if I was paid for it.

I would almost have to agree with Snow Owl that it's closer to Spencer by the year, if nothing else. But unless Tom Z. cares to share exactly what he was aiming for, we may never truly know.

It's blocked here at work and I don't have any Internet access at home right now, but check out imcdb.org It's the Internet Movie Car Database. They have a search option and you can find "Spenser: For Hire" that way or go through the letters alphabetically. Either way, that site is enormous and a valuable resource!

So sad Robert Ulrich (Spenser For Hire) passed away almost 8 years ago.

I liked Robert Ulrich in VEGA$ better. The red T-Bird that he drove was cool. Guess he was a Ford guy.

That is where I grabbed the screen shots. The car is the same color green, While it was filming I was in Boston and dropped by the set.

That's a quite gorgeous Mustang! I never watched "Spenser: For Hire" so I have to ask- did it make it through the series intact or was it destroyed?

First season he had the green Mustang and was dating Barbara Stock. Second season for some reason he got a new Gray Mustang GT and a different girlfriend. Season three Green Mustang returned along with original girlfriend

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
A reminder that there was an official Bullitt version of the new Mustang in 2008, same color. They put the one I was looking at on "sale" at the Ford dealer near where I work, but the price (and insurance!) was beyond my budget at the time. In fact, the price is even MORE beyond my budget now.......but at least I got me a 2009 Mustang, one that I COULD afford.

This leads me to believe he never owned a Mustang, the girls owned the Mustangs.
