New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Here's the link from AOL news about the new Ford Interceptor.
I'm sure Ford will do a good job, but an icon's career is coming to an end....

Support your local demo derby.

I'm in mourning now. That last true full size, full frame rwd V-8 American car will now just be a footnote. This has sparked a massive wave of depression over on wecrash.com These Crown Vics, '79-'09, are the last great generation of derby cars as well as serving as the classic cop cruiser. This will in time kill off the full size car class as no one else makes a suitable full framer with rwd. Might see another 25-30 years or even less of the full size class, even then it will most likely be nothing but '92+ bubble Vics. The sport will look nothing like it does today and won't resemble anything like derbies were 5-15 years ago with all late 60s and 1970s heavy iron running. :o

There is already talk that these newer style Crown Vics, esp the '03-'09s w/hydroformed frame rails, will in time be banned/outlawed much like Chrysler Imperials of the mid 60s - early 70s fame were. All the other cars in the future will perhaps just be fwd V-6 midsize cars and thus the Crown Vics would have a size and weight advantage. That would be a horrible thought to consider.

Was kinda hoping Ford might use the rwd Falcon from down under so derby drivers might have a glimmer of hope for a rwd V-8 powered car. I'm bummed. :(

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
I was also hoping for an Aussie Falcon based replacement, but the Taurus was announced as the Crown Vic's replacement last year so I am hardly surprised at this announcement.

There's still hope. That Tarus will NOT succeed as a police vehicle, Ford will either have to go back to something more traditional or quit the cop business altogether.

Quitting makes more economic sense than taking an Australian market car, converting it to US specs, meeting crash testing, etc for what really does boil down to being a nitch product. If the Crown Vic, for which the tooling is long since paid off, isn't producing the kinds of profit Ford needs it to in order to justify it's continued production, then there's no chance of seeing the Aussie Falcon come over here. Public sales of the Crown Vic (discontinued), Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car have been underwhelming the past few years.
