The car for today is Yatming's 1979 Chevy Camaro Z-28.

Wikipedia.com

The biggest changes for 1979 were the introduction of the luxury-oriented Berlinetta model, replacing the Type LT, and a restyled instrument panel with a much flatter appearance than the previous wraparound design (although the gauges themselves remained in the same places as before). The base model, RS and Z28s carried on as before, the Z28s now came with a front spoiler and fender flares much like its Pontiac Trans Am twin had, and now came with "Z28" decals that ran from the beginning of the front flares to the bottoms of the doors. Electric rear window defroster became optional this year, replacing the old blower type. Sales for 1979 were the highest ever for any generation Camaro before or since, numbering 282,571 units. Engine choices remained with the 250 I6 standard in the base and RS models, with the 305 2bbl being an option and standard on the Berlinetta. The 350 V8 remained standard on the Z28 and optional on the base, RS and Berlinetta.

This was the 2nd generation Camaro offered by Chevy before the redesigned and smaller model would show up in '82. While not high on actual hp, they made up for it in style and presentation.

A classic Yatming model that features opening doors, metal body and metal base. For a 'cheapie' brand, they sure offered a lot for your $. While perhaps more accurate models have been created by JL or others, this one still shows a great deal of character.

On the VERY downside: it turns out the worst thing you can do is NOT DLM Yatmings from the late 70s/early 80s. If they stay in the package, the finishes on the cars deteriorate. Happily, this is not the case with this marvelous example.

This model is not common, nowadays, although there were plenty of them back in the day. I think the Camaro's huge fan base has scarfed many of them up.

Good choice!

I do like this era of Yatmings but the tampos let them down. Pretty much every model seems to have racing decals even though they're not all racing cars!

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I came in too late to do any scarfing.

Closest we ever got was the police car in the Cragstan Sabra series, in 1:43. 1966 Impala four-door, but the roofline was so incredibly wrong that I've passed on it at the shows many times. Like, totally messed up, man.

Oh I love this casting.

Superior over the Hot Wheels :toy:

I have two of these, one with the classic wheel type metal base and detailed steering wheel, The other a little different with a really ugly thing instead of the steering wheel. I wish I had another or more...

:woot: I love those vintage yatmings.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
I've got the later Road Burner example shown by diegomg.

And I'm insanely jealous of the red one, Zach! Gorgeous! Depending on what else is on tap this week, a Camaro could get my COTW vote for the first time, ever!

And you know where my vote will be heading, although a couple of more Chevy's this week as Car of the day could muddy up the voting a bit.....

I have a silver one too. The red one I have, like the one you show, cost me a quarter at a garage sale about a mile down the road from me.
