Today's Car of the Day is Siku's Porsche 911.![]() From Wikipedia: The Porsche 911 (pronounced as Nine Eleven, German: Neunelfer) is a sports car made by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany. It has a distinctive design, rear engined and with swing axle rear suspension, both like the Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle. The car was also air-cooled until the introduction of the newly-designed Type 996 in 1998. Since its introduction in autumn 1963[1], it has undergone continuous development[2]. The basic concept has remained little changed throughout its evolution.[2] Throughout its lifetime, the 911 has been modified both by private teams and by the factory itself for racing, rallying and other forms of automotive competition. It is among the most successful competition cars ever. In the mid 1970s, normally aspirated 911 Carrera RSRs won major world championship sports car races such as Targa Florio, Daytona, Sebring and Nürburgring, even against prototypes. The 911-derived 935 turbo also won the coveted 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1979. In the 1999 international poll for the award of Car of the Century, the 911 came fifth. It is the only one in the top five that has remained continuously in production,[3] and was until 1998 the most successful surviving application of the air- (now water-) cooled opposed rear engine layout pioneered by its original ancestor, the Volkswagen Beetle. It is one of the oldest sports car nameplates still in production. ![]() ![]() A classic renowned the world 'round...here is one of the finest diecast examples... ![]()

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!

A bit large for the glass area is the only exception I can see right off---but this appears to be a quite worthy 911 casting, and would be nice in my collection. I'm not a Porsche fan at all, but I do like this one. Good choice to show, SAK. |

Gulp. Wow. Really amazing casting which I was unaware of previously. Get the sense that picking just one favorite this week won't be easy. |

I think this may have been the last colour this model was issued in. The earlier models didn't have the light painted on. I have the white version which is more common as well as a white convertible version. Excellent castings, but at 1:55 scale they may be a bit big for some tastes.
