Thanks for the link Swifty. I find it interesting that we are getting a combination of a Dodge Challenger casting #216 that has been previously released in very similar colour schemes although slightly different. ![]() 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T from Mopar Or No car release 5 ![]() 1970 Dodge Challenger from 2005 Pony Power 10 Car Box Set. Change the colour of the top on this one to black and you have a repeat. I used to (past tense) actively collect this casting for my collection but with the plastic base releases I kind of lost interest. I would have loved to seen this new release done in orange with a black roof and with or without the shaker hood and NO side stripes. Cheers. Cobra |

It would be Plum Crazy for a collector to buy three nearly identical versions of the same car! |

As for the '70 Plymouth Cuda, I will pass. For a couple dollars more, I can buy a finely detailed Greenlight casting. Cheers. Cobra |

Swifty, I do like you sense of humour and I am willing to bet that you were waiting for the right opportunity to use the words "Plum Crazy". You made me laugh when I read it. Thanks. Cheers. Cobra |

It's not often one can work that into a sentence and have it be topical, that's for sure! Glad I could make you laugh. ![]() And I will point out to Ivan that I spelled 'bail' correctly. I just used the wrong spelling for that meaning. Big difference.

The Dodge name for the colour was "Plum Crazy" and Plymouth called it "In Violet", paint code FC-7. Most of the paint codes used between the two manufacturers were the same but the names were different in many cases. EV-2 - "Hemi Orange" and "Tor Red" FJ-6 - "Green Go" and "Sassy Grass Green" FM3 - "Panther Pink" and "Moulin Rouge" Who can forget that high impact pink colour on 1970 Mopars! FY-1 - "Top Banana" and "Lemon Twist" Lemon Twist is my favourite colour and name. Maybe because it reminds me of rum and Coke with a lemon twist or a twist of lime. ![]() Plymouth Lemon Twist. I think Panther Pink and Moulin Rouge are seperate colors. Panther Pink is a lighter, brighter shade while Moulin Rouge is more of a hot pink. And who else but Mopar could get away with a hot pink muscle car? And have it look good at that! |

Swifty, make sure that you spell "bale" correctly when in communication with the "corn field kid" a.k.a. Sir Crafty. Zach will catch the connotation from an old posting by RWWCARGUY over at JLTalk.com that I brought to the top last night. "some kid from the corn fields of Illinois". Do we know him? We sure do. We do have fun, too. Hi Zach Cheers. Cobra

Swifty, the Chrysler and Ditzler paint codes are the same for the colour and the name doesn't matter. BYW, here are a couple of names that were not used: Statutory Grape Gang Green And to think that I like both of them. And just for you Swifty: As cute as Mopar’s High Impact Colors were, Ford one-upped them on names for its 1970 poly-paint colors: Original Cinnamon Bring ‘Em Back Olive Three Putt Green Anti-Establish Mint Last Stand Custard There She Blue Young Turquoise Hulla Blue Good Clean Fawn Counter Revolutionary Red Knight White Freudian Gilt History Onyx Sean, the above colours are real, see the attached link: http://www.metromusclecars.com/FordExterior/1970ExteriorPaint.html Enjoy! "Corn Field Kid" is present and accounted for Cobra! These two Mopars aren't too bad but I think by now they could ditch those wheels which are on the purple one. They look quite outdated. The rims on the orange Cuda look more at home on a new Challenger, but don't look half bad on the old school Mopars. Has a bit of the 'pro touring' vibe to it. If M2 and HWs can put some wicked looking rubber tires and chrome rims on their $3 line, then I think JL could at least upgrade their all plastic wheels for a $2 line.

Did you know that there were four different style hoods used on the 1970 Dodge Challenger?![]() Standard hood. ![]() Power bulge hood. ![]() Shaker hood. ![]() T/A model fibreglass hood. ACCobra, there were TWO Mopar bright greens used in 1970. I had a '70 Duster that used the first (lighter) shade. I think it was called "Limelight." They dropped that color mid year and only offered the Grassy green color (in your first pic of the Challengers) for the next few years. If you looked fast, you couldn't identify one from the other, but when next to each other, you could see a big difference. |

My neighbour had an In Violet coloured '70 Plymouth Duster 340 back in the early '80s. I think that he bought it new in 1970. It was a very nice car and he babied it. Talking about 1970 Dodge Demons and Plymouth Dusters, I still can remember seeing a lot of them back in the days when my wife and I used to make trips to drag racing on a fairly regular basis. There were a lot of them around and most of them ran consistant times. Fun times and fond memories. Colour code FJ5 was called "Sublime" by Dodge and "Lime Light" by Plymouth. This was a 1970 only colour as you stated. ![]() ![]() Colour code FJ6 ws called "Green Go" by Dodge and "Sassy Green" by Plymouth. This colour is darker than the other shade of green as you stated. It was used in 1970 and 1971. ![]() ![]() Images courtesy of JLCollector.com. Thanks Wyatt. The colours shown on the JL castings may not be exact but they work for comparison purposes. And thanks IvanTT for your comments. This has turned into a fun topic. In 1970 and 1971, I am a Plymouth Duster fan versus the Dodge Demon. Nothing personal against whether brand but it's just me. Cheers. Cobra |

I actually laughed out loud when I read this Well-played, my friend. Thanks for the list of Ford color names--I was unaware they were so...wait for it...colorful. I only knew about the "Anti-Establish mint" when I recently cleaned photos out of my Flickr account. A great name and certainly apropos for the time period. |

WoloMan, I will repost the link to the 1970 Ford colours in case I used the wrong one. http://www.metromusclecars.com/FordExterior/1970ExteriorPaint.html I want to double check to see if I listed the correct one. I just tried it and it is the right one and worked for me. BYW, I don't think that "Brindle Brown" was used as a paint name either but I could be wrong. Cheers. Cobra |
