Today's car of the day is Matchbox's 1997 MG F.

The MG F and later the MG TF are mid-engined, rear wheel drive roadster cars produced from 1995 onwards. The MG F was the first all-new car to bear the MG marque since the MG MGB, produced from 1962 to 1980. Production of the MG TF stopped in 2005, when MG Rover went into receivership, only to resume production in 2007 under the company's new owners Nanjing Automobile of China.
MG had stopped producing sports cars in 1980 when British Leyland closed their Abingdon plant near Oxford, although the MG badge was used on badge-engineered hatchbacks and saloons between 1982 and 1991. In 1992, the company (by this time Rover Group) restarted production of the classic MGB as the limited-edition RV8, and positive reaction led the company to develop the MG F. It was revised and renamed using the historic TF name in 2002, but production was halted following the collapse of the MG Rover Group in 2005. However, after Nanjing Automobile Group acquired the rights to the MG TF, the completion of the new MG factory in Nanjing saw production being restarted in March 2007.

Along with Matchbox's MGA, this is the only other proper MG produced in small scale (not counting the 1100 from the Lesney era). It's a nice model and the level of detail is certainly better on this one than the white version that was also produced, although it does ride slightly high at the front. The real car was still being produced until 5 years ago when Rover went bust without changing a lot before being put back into production about 3 years ago under Chinese ownership. However production soon ceased when Nanjing automotive realised that people didn't want dated looking cars costing as much as better, newer designed cars, which was part of the reason Rover went bust in the first place.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
It's a nice casting! Which issue is this? I only recall a yellow one.

Oh, it's sweet in red!

I've always had the yellow one. I recently found the white one at KK.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Interesting little scooter, but the casting does sit too high, making it look like a pedal car. It certainly does not have either a distinctive or classic design such as the other MG's. I'm sure owners were happy, but I can see the point made by Nanjing.
Another casting I'll have to look for in the future. I'm sure it is easy to overlook as something else.

SAK, I love that Zephyr ad..... what a great classy feeling one gets from seeing that... the music is playing :fiddle: , the cocktails are being served, and you just pulled up in this impressive Zeyphr. Beautiful print ad.

Support your local demo derby.

Sure, it sits quite high but it is a mid 90s MB casting so at least it doesn't have rhino horns or gator skin on it! Doubt I've ever seen this model before either online or in person for that matter.

Yes, Ivan, and since we, as Americans, are conditioned to think of class in terms of size, keep in mind that this car was the size of a 1964 Falcon...

I used to have a red version but traded it away. I do have the yellow waiting to be DLM'ed though.
