Today's car of the day is High Speed's 2001 Jaguar X-Type.

The X-Type is a compact executive car which was produced between 2001 and 2009 by Jaguar. It was the smallest of the range of Jaguar saloons, and included the only estate model in the Jaguar range. It was produced at the Halewood assembly facility near Liverpool,[1] a Jaguar Land Rover plant which also produces the Land Rover Freelander.
Neither Jaguar nor Ford had a suitable small rear-wheel drive platform to base the X-Type on, and the decision was made to base the X-Type on a modified version of the Ford CD132 platform, the basis for the 2000 Ford Mondeo. In order to distinguish it from its rivals and its Ford origins, the X-Type was initially offered as all-wheel drive only and mated to a 2.5 litre and 3.0 litre AJ-V6 petrol engine. In 2003, the X-Type was offered in front-wheel drive with the introduction of Jaguar’s first four-cylinder diesel engines (based on the Ford Duratorq ZSD unit from the Mondeo and Transit), and with the smaller 2.0 litre petrol V6.
In 2004, a further body style was added with the introduction of an estate version, making it the second-ever Jaguar estate car. In North America, the estate was officially known as the "Sportwagon”.

The X-Type was considered nothing more than a posh Ford Mondeo when it came out as it shared the Mondeo's platform and a lot of the components (but for a higher price, of course). It was Jaguar's only attempt at making a 'smaller' car, and since it was discontinued a couple of years ago, I don't think there are any plans for Jaguar to replace it. This model by High Speed is accurately detailed, and true 1:64.

Our old office manager had one. It was not a very good car, at all...in fact, a complete bomb compared to an A3.

This is a very nice High Speed model! Never seen it Stateside.

Support your local demo derby.

I'm with Sak, never seen this one over here. Quite the nice model though.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
I've see one of these Jags now and then, and notice they are smaller, and sometimes at quick glance think it is a Hyundai. Americans wouldn't know a Mondeo from a Monarch, so the car here is purely a Jaguar here and its origins wouldn't stop one from being a Jag owner. Jags are very popular in the far west states---I see numbers of them in my daily travels.

Looks like the the High Speed version would be a good trading item for U.S. collectors.

I thought for sure I had this one but I don't. When I checked my database and actual diecast car I discovered I did have a Jaguar X-Type, but it was made by Yatming and is 1:72 scale. I like it as it represents a crap car from Jaguar, one that I actually see occasionally on the streets.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Add me to the list of people who don't have this one. I'm going to have to track one down also!

As for the Mondeo origins- Americans would know that as the Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique and it's quite apparent from the side profile the humble origins of this Jaguar.

It's just one of many crap Jaguars over the years. The XJS and the XJ6 were awful cars, especially the XJS. And the styling on the S-Type was hideous.

It's only been in the past few years that Jaguar have got their act back together producing some superb cars like the XK, XF and XJ.
