I stopped in at the local Dodge dealer to see about possibly sponsoring something for the CARnival the other week and took a Jeep Grand Cherokee home for the weekend. It was really nice but they could not work out a deal so the wife and I started looking for other potential cars to replace the Mazda. It was just too small for us. The wife wanted something with more space. She was totally hung up on those new vehicles that have the 3rd row seating but I was not too thrilled about them and I am not ready to drive a mini van just yet. LOL So we went to a place that had an inventory closeout sale and we found our Edge. Well, it was not that instant. It was way too much out of our price range but the sales guy insisted we should take it for the weekend. We did and on Monday after they tole me they got approval we went in and the approval was for a total differnt amount than we taked about. We had a long discussion, they offered for us to look at other lesser cars and a lot of other topics came up. I told them that their mistake was insisting on taking the Edge home for the weekend because that was the only car on the lot that I liked and it was that or nothing. We left to think it over and make some calls. On the way home we decided to keep the Mazda for a while longer. Mandy made the check out for the next payment, I renewed the registration online that night and Tuesday morning I made an appointent to have the Mazda looked at. Besides being too small it was not running right. I was afraid that was either the exhaust system or the tranny. So Tuesday we get a call from the sales rep and he got the numbers in line. It was slightly more than what we were negotiating but we were also being pretty rough. We told them that we wanted to drive off the lot paying the same as what we were paying for the Mazda with no downpayment and rolling the balance of the Mazda into the loan. We ended up meeting a lot closer to our side which came out pretty awesome. They gave us $2,000.00 more than book value of the Mazda in mint shape and it was far from that and they knew about the exhauset/tranny issue. We also got the Edge for less than book value! This was very far from the first few numbers so if you take anything from this, drive a very hard bargain. Make them work for you. Do NOT buy the day you look at the car. Have them let you drive it overnight or over the weekend. Heck, I went home and did some research about the actual dealership and saw a bunch of negatives about the dealership. I printed them out, took them in with me and explained that I knew that some folks were just whining about their deals or something and I said that if we ended up making a deal I would be a happy customer that would love to add positive comments when and where I could.

Anyways, I had a great overall experience. It took about 8 hours of my time and it almost didn't happen but all that time was worth it. We are very happy with our upgraded ride.

Well, that is the story. Here are the pics of the Ford Fleet.
Sorry for the glare. The sun was at a bad angle and it was almost dinner time.
