The car for today is 1 Bad Ride's 2005 Ford Mustang.

Wikipedia.com

The fifth-generation Mustang is manufactured at the AutoAlliance International plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. The base model is powered by a 210 hp (157 kW) cast-iron block 4.0 L SOHC V6, which replaces the 3.8 L pushrod V6 used previously. The Mustang GT features an aluminum block 4.6 L SOHC 3-valve Modular V8 with variable camshaft timing (VCT) that produces 300 hp (224 kW). The 2005 Mustang GT has an approximate weight to power ratio of 11.5 lb (5.2 kg)/bhp. The base Mustang comes with a standard Tremec T-5 5-speed manual transmission while Ford's own 5R55S 5-speed automatic, a Mustang first, is optional. Though the Mustang GT features the same automatic transmission as the V6 model, the Tremec T-5 manual is substituted with the heavier duty Tremec TR-3650 5-speed manual transmission to better handle the GT's extra power.

This was part of a series Badd Rides did that featured NASCAR drivers at the time with their color schemes on similar brand vehicles. This one is the DeWalt tools car driven by Matt Kenseth. While a bit larger than the generic "1/64" scale, the cars were still sold as that scale but are closer to 1/50 size.

Badd Rides made this casting one bad Mustang, and the colors and detail work was very well done and was a great buy for it's day--cars like this would be in the $5-$6 range today.
Another example of how I balked at buying this when new, but I'm now so glad I did at the time !

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
I grabbed a few of the regular paint versions of this casting, but left the NASCAR versions on the pegs. There was a time I was a NASCAR fan. And that time was the 1980s and 1990s...

What? You aren't a fan of the cookie cutter appearing cars raced in NASCAR of today? Shocking!

Common template cars on cookie cutter tracks with bland drivers.

"Aero push" is not an excuse. "You make it fast, and I'll make it handle" is what I want to hear from race car drivers. Paraphrase of Cale Yarborough by the way.

Microcar
I quit following NASCAR around the time Petty hung up his spurs.

Just ain't the same since they got away from 'race on Sunday, buy on Monday'.

Nascar died basically around when Dale Earnhardt died. Not cause Dale was anything great. More cause they commercialized and sold out everything that made nascar what it is.
Got rid of Winston and Busch as staple sponsors who have been there for 25+ yrs.
Changed the point system.
Stupid back wing they finally got rid of.
Limiting car teams to 4 cars.
Getting rid of North Wilkesboro.
Racing out of the country in Japan.
heck Bringing Toyota into nascar.

The list continues. but after 2001 things really turned. I dont know but its just not the same for me.

As long as the current format makes money, NA$CAR has no incentive to change paths. I stopped watching after the debacle that was the 2004 season, and you know what's funny? I learned I enjoy having my weekends back! I can get out and do things. While formerly fascinating I just have no use for NA$CAR at all these days! So I decided to put my money where my mouth is- I no longer watch the races (lower ratings), I no longer buy merchandise, race tickets, etc. They lost a very loyal fan in me. Pity.

The last full race I watched from start to finish was Dale's last race. I was never a hardcore fan, just used to watch a few full races a season and followed the points race casually. Will agree with Scooter, post Dale SR. Nascar seemed to lose something that you can't place a dollar amount on. It doesn't help that the cars haven't looked 'similar' to the actual stock cars they are based on for the past 20 years either. They lost the stock appearance.

I still say if they limited the cars to just modified versions of the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger they'd have much better ratings and interest. Whatever the biggest stock engine they produce for the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger is the block you have to run in each car. If you want to add super chargers or other tricks, be my guest. I sure as heck don't want to watch cookie cutter cars with generic 1950s V-8s run in circles.

x2

The only stock car racing I enjoyed watching was a few years back when a cable channel played the original 60s races before and during the "aero wars."

Back to the topic, I do have some of these 'Stangs in my stable, even though the dimensions are a bit off. Still, nice colors and detail work.
