Well... this is my fifth day without a cigarette. Man, this is one of the hardest things I have ever tried. Cutting way back on the amount of beer consumed also. They sort of go together like cereal and milk. Wish me luck!!! |

Good luck Bob. A few years ago while I was in the middle of a delivery run I lit up a cigarette took two drags off it and thought how God awful it tasted and put it out, then tossed the rest of the pack in the trash. Have not had one since and have really had no desire either. Best of luck. |

One Tuesday morning, back in September of 1990, I was at work. I had to go out and meet a client about something. As I got back into the car, I realized that I was out of cigarettes. It seemed like I was always running out of cigarettes, or I was in some building where I wasn't allowed to smoke cigarettes, or I was in someone's car, and couldn't, or I had to steal away for five minutes to have a smoke before I went inside, or what the heck ever, and I threw my arms up and said, "enough!" I just wan't gonna buy cigarettes. Oh well! I lasted to the early afternoon, when I went into the gas station across the street from the shop, and bought a carton. I said to myself, "this is the last carton of cigarettes I will ever buy. I've had enough." Now, keep in mind, I was doing three packs a day! So, Tuesday passes into Friday. I'm at dinner at a Chinese restaurant long since perished, and I have two cigarettes left in the last pack. I told one of my closest friends, who joined me for dinner that night, that these were the last two cigarettes I would ever smoke. She said, "you'll be smoking again on Monday, who are you kidding?" I finished that last cigarette in the garage of my house that night, around 9 PM. September 28, 1990. And, that WAS my last cigarette. I was tired of smoking, and shortness of breath, and coughing, and stinking...and watching my relatives all die from Lung Cancer...one by one. I was done- never had a crisis, never, ever in danger of lighting up again. Of course, I had dreams at night where I smoked...for a good fifteen years after I quit. I never missed it in my conscious state! If you want to quit- I mean, REALLY want to quit, you will. You'll find a way. Good luck...it's a very, very worthy cause, one you'll be very proud of succeeding at!

Can you see what I'm saying?

Like Sak said, if you want to really quit, you will quit. I am an ex-smoker of nearly 2 years and it was the hardest thing I have ever done (and keep in mind I have two kids). It took me 10 years of trying to quit to finally do it for good. I am so pleased that I haven't lit up since, but it's not easy. There have been many times where I have wanted to, but I haven't. It really is a great feeling not having to stop a movie to go grab a smoke or to have to go outside after a meal just to calm your nic-fit. The best part though? Being able to run or even walk without feeling winded. I never knew my lungs were suffering that bad. It really is a huge difference. I wish you the best of luck and know that we are all here for you if you ever need to talk about it, just post. Talking about it really does help. Swifty was a huge help to me and I can't thank him enough. |

Good luck! I have a cigar about once every 3 months or so, and that's about as far as I want to get into it. |
