Per Ivan's request, we have the MB and Maisto versions of the new Ford Raptor SVT truck. The Matchbox version on the left, Maisto's copy is on the right. ![]() Front drivers side angle shot . . . ![]() ![]() ![]() From the above angle we can tell several things. For starters, the MB which is the first one pictured, has a more proportionally correct front end shape to it. The details on the grill and headlights favor the MB as well. The 'air vents' in the hood are color correct on the MB as Matchbox used the interior glass to extend down under the hood. These vents are the same body color on the Maisto. The MB version has a semi-correct appearing mirror as well. Seems they couldn't or wouldn't replicate the 1/1 version. The Maisto is stuck with a generic appearing one. Side Profile ![]() ![]() ![]() The MB version has fender flares which are part of the base and appear to be a correct color like the 1/1 version. The fender air vent on the MB appears to be too large and the Maisto version would seem to be correct. Both models have side running boards and the paint graphics are really your choice here. The B-Pillar is correct in size on the MB but is plastic while the Miasto has a casted B-Pillar yet appears to be too thick. Tailgate and Bed MB ![]() ![]() This is where I'd dock MB major points if such a system was in place. For starters the MB version doesn't have any painted on taillights where as the Maisto version does. The Maisto has almost Biante like tampos on the tailgate, no I'm not joking here either, with both the Ford emblem and F 150 Raptor tampoed on in a very excellent fashion. The tailgate handle is represented well by Maisto to boot. Moving on to the rear bumper, the MB would loose more points. They decided to add a scale wise massive tow hood which looks awful imho. Maisto opted to go with a true to form pure stock rear bumper. I do give props to MB molding a spare tire into the bed though. Only downfall to this is the bed liner is all plastic while the Maisto version is cast as part of the body. Rear 3/4 ![]() ![]() Paint and wheel wise is a bit of a toss up as well. MB easily wins for wheels, while I prefer the paint on the Maisto. Mb's paint looks like the same they've used on Lexus and Mecedes Benz luxury cars while the Maisto color would be more truer to form to the 1/1 Raptor. The Maisto of course doesn't have an interior. MB says it's version is 1/75 in scale and the Maisto version mgiht actually be around 1/72 if I had to guess. The stance on the MB is good while the Maisto guy sits low in the back. MB has a sunroof while the Maisto has a 3rd rear brake light casted into the rear portion of the roof. Mb has a working suspension, so that adds some major brownie points. ![]() So adding all this up, what does it all mean? Good question! The Matchbox version cost me $0.97 and the Maisto set me back a whopping $0.79 I think. If MB would include the detail on the tampos on the tailgate and taillights, this wouldn't be as close of a comparison. Both offer good overall quality for under a buck. When I saw these on the pegs, I couldn't pick just one, so I bought both! Edited by craftymore, Apr 25 2010, 01:14 AM.

Thanks for the great comparison and showing the 1:1 also. I'm also very surprised that the MBX doesn't have taillight tampos or logos. It's like they said, "Hey...we added in great details in other areas, so you get what you get."

I've got the Maisto, yet to see that Matchbox. From looking that these pictures, I'd say the MB blows the Maisto out of the water. Both are worth having though! |

Nice comparison. I have 6 of the MB Raptors, and after reading your opinion on the tow hook, I just might cut them off. They are big! It's only plastic so de-tow-hooking it might not be to hard a job. I've seen the Maisto Raptor in stores and didn't care for it. |

Thanks for the review..... I agree, the rear end detail on the Maisto blows me away..... other then that the MB is the winner.... |

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

As soon as the Matchbox Raptor appears in the Lesney Editions or a similar, higher detailed Matchbox line, than it will be perfect.

Great review Zach! Thanks for your great observations. I just found the MB version, and agree with everything you said. The rear tampos add a lot and the tow-hook takes a lot away. |

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!

The overall detail f the MB seems to win out, but I think if you detail painted parts of the Maisto, it would suddebly look a LOT better, especially with the rear gate graphics. If MB does a Lesney edition with better rear detailling, it sure would be the definitive one. Niiiiiice, Crafty! You mentioned the things we look for, and there were good followups by the viewers. They both left out details. This would be a toss up. |

cutting off those "too big" hitches is pretty easy- with a razor/ exacto (CAREFULLY!) or even better, a dremel tool... i vote for the MBX- not only because all it needs is a little paint marker detailing, but also because it handles a lot better off road... ![]() Matchbox Diecast Ford F-150 SVT Raptor Diecast Diorama by PMC 1stPix, on Flickr

Both are great looking but I would go with the matchbox and what a Truck huh? Chevy can't match that. |

I've got both, and I prefer the matchbox. Some of the non-colored areas I painted them |

I've got both, between what both miss, I'd go with the Maisto, but the Matchbox one is of higher quality |
