Marshall decided to have two derbies during their Clark Co. fair this year with the first one being held a day before the official day the fair starts. Car count was extremely low tonight. They had two heats of full size with no more than 6 in either and a 1 run feature of 8 compacts. Several factors are the cause of this I suspect. For starters, Cayuga, Indiana ran their first derby tonight as a fundraiser for the local fire dept. Most of the officials for that show are from nearby Paris, IL and they are drivers that typically run the Marshall show. There were also other shows in the area with one in Lafeyette, Indiana a couple hours north and a Show Time Promotions show 2 hours south in southern Illinois. At Marshall they allow full seam welding on the frames, hump plates, and leaf spring conversions with up to 9 leafs per side. Mid 70s Mopars and early 70s Caddies seem to the choice for these type of shows. With only 20 cars total, the show only lasted one hour and a half. The shortest derby I've been to. With the track pretty dry, the compact and full size features were fast paced. For whatever reason, two of the full size cars that didn't qualify for the feature were allowed to compete in it. Dave's car is a 'Caddyback' which uses the combination of the front doghouse/frame section from a '76 Cadillac and the rear frame section/suspension from a chevy roundback wagon. This was the same car he ran at Cayuga, Indiana last year at least 3 times, winning once. They outlawed the car in effect by disallowing such frame swaps. ![]() ![]() ![]() The remains of what was a stock '86 Ford.
