Support your local demo derby.

My hopes of good car counts early in this year for derbies is fading fast. Less than 20 entires made up the derby this evening in Cayuga, Indiana for the local county fair. This is another show that even just two years ago had 30+ in the full size class plus a dozen or so for the compacts. They only ran two classes and both were one shot deals for each class. With only 1 truck showing, the truck class was canceled. Not sure if the fairboard guarantees the payout or not as that might have something to do with the shoddy numbers.

Ended up driving 130+ miles round trip to watch a derby that last perhaps at best 50 minutes. :(

With 10 entries in the compacts and the most of the two classes, the small cars ran first.

The fwd red car put on the show of the night flying all over the track deliverying wheel lifting hit after another. He'd get stuck in the mud and finish 4th.

These two cars below battled for 1st/2nd with the grey one taking 1st despite the boos and yells of sandbagger from the crowd.

Entire full size class was run in a one shot deal as well.

Car driven by Gearhardt who had a slamming small block that sounded totally wicked. Unfortunately he didn't have a strong enough drive shaft behind the engine/trans and broke it.

Got down to 2 cars, the Spider Man '64 Galaxie and some 70s iron. AFter a few decent shots were exchanged, the Spider Man took a drivers door shot and the other car was DQ'ed. Other than sheetmetal damage, the Galaxie was unfazed.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
Despite the low car count it looks like it was a good, if short, derby. The Galaxie is gorgeous!
