Support your local demo derby.

My hometown derby had a surprisingly decent car count this year considering how low they have been in the area. Two full size heats, a consi, compact feature and a truck feature were ran in addition to the full size final. About 20 full size, 16 compacts, and 8 trucks ran.

This show is still mercifully ran by Webb Promotions, a real slime ball promoter whose payouts are among the lowest of any promoter in the state. When he's not screwing over drivers, he's typically drunk by the end of the night if not before the show starts. Cars aren't inspected for safety or illegal structural reinforcements so it's a true 'run what ya brung' derby.

He only paid $400 to win the full size class, paid out 2 places in the compacts and perhaps only 1st place in trucks. Less than 10 years ago when Charleston was getting 50+ full size, the show paid $800 to win. Now drivers have way more $ invested in the engines and the actual cars.

Here's a short vid of a full track shot between a '60s Dodge truck and a 70s Chevy going back to back. They did this several times and the Dodge never sustained any damage. Tim Koester who drove the Dodge had a wedged bed and a leafed front axle. He never used the front all night on the Dodge. :D
