The derby at Greenup this year proved to be the largest county fair derby that I watched this year. In all 38 full size cars and 15 compacts were entered. The 38 full size is to my knowledge the 2nd highest in the state of Illinois this year for a county fair. Four full size heats were ran plus a big car consi and a feature compact event. The rules at Greenup are still pretty liberal. This year in the written rules, the addition of kickers to the frames was added. Kickers is large steel pipe that is ran off the drivers cage under the hood and welded to the top and or sides of the frame near the a-arms of the cars. Most places ban this additional reinforcement. Places that do allow this typically have an outlaw class, the open class at the November derby in Cayuga, Indiana is one example. Larry Farrand from Rosedale, Indiana which is northest of Terre Haute took first place in a shocker Chrysler wagon. 2nd place went to Jamie Blade of nearby Jewett in a shocker Chrysler New Yorker sedan. 3rd went to hometown driver Daniel Black in a '72 Pontiac. The 1st place car I believe had a new style Imperial subframe under it and the 2nd place car had a kickers to the front end. The '72 Pontiac was otherwise stock without kickers. This was by far the best fair derby I've seen this year. Low car counts continue to plague most of my local fairs with most not even getting 20 if half that this year. Greenup seems more like my hometown derby than the one in Charleston. For the 3rd year, I got a pit pass and a spot on the stage to snap pics. A big thanks goes to Jeff Winnett, the promoter of the derby. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The winning car, a mid 70s Chrysler wagon. ![]() Daniel Black - 3rd place full size ![]() Compact winners ![]() Jaimie Blade - 2nd place full size ![]() Big car 1,2,3 winners ![]() Edited by craftymore, Aug 29 2010, 10:02 PM.

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

Looks like a good derby! Pretty sad that 38 full size and 15 compacts is now considered a good car count...
