Anyone else have some Nylint toys from their childhood? Swifty and I were chatting about them. All the older ones were made in Rockford, IL and they made a variety of toy trucks and cars plus semi-trucks in larger scales. I'll get some pics sometime on Tuesday of the ones I have. |

I should still have a few of these around the house, might have to dig them up for some pics next time I'm home. I remember an Explorer with tiger stripes. |

Nylint began as a company in 1937 though they would not produce toys until immediately after WWII. They remained in business until 2001 according to Wiki. These are the current 4 items I have from my childhood collection. Ford 9000 wrecker - This version is from the mid to late 80s. On ebay, I see these going to $50. ![]() ![]() ![]() late 60s Ford farm truck- My version is most likely from the late 70s or early 80s as Nylint offered this model for many years in various color combos. The only plastic on this one is the grill, the bed is all metal. ![]() ![]() ![]() GMC - Check out the 'Buy American' wording on this Wal-MArt truck. This was from the early 90s when WM was trying to stay with the Buy USA theme despite their products rapidly being imported. ![]() ![]() Fire Truck! This has 'working' hose and removable ladders. ![]() ![]() Prices for Nylint toys are still modest to very affordable after a quick check on ebay. They offered a wide range of trucks and semis plus some cars. With my growing dissatisfaction with small scale diecast and the hobby in general, I think collecting Made in USA pressed steel toys is a viable alternative. |

Hmn, the front of the Ford pickup almost looks like a '79. Maybe they updated earlier tooling with a mew base? |

Now that I look at it again, it does look like late 70s Ford. Guess listings on ebay are very wrong then! |

Heh, I'm very familiar with '79 Ford pickups. My college roommate had one in Bigfoot blue. He loved that truck- and I was fond of it myself! I've since lost touch with him over the years but I hope he still has it.

I wonder if Nylint had any connection with Midgetoy- they were up in Rockford, Illinois as well. |

@ George - Midgetoy quit producing new items in the early 80s and to my knowledge no one else bought out their stock. Nylint stayed in business until 2001. Here's a Nylint Chevy Truck I bought at an auction in Greenup, IL today. the only plastic is the front grill/bumper. The rest is all metal including the rear bumper. Paid $31 for it, which I think is more than a great price. I washed it up with warm soapy water with a wash cloth. It cleaned up nicely. I really like these older Nylint trucks. They were all made in Rockford, IL. Believe Nylint produced this True Value model in the early 80s or even late 70s. This Chevy is 14" long, 5.5" wide and 5" tall. Rough versions on evil bay were going for about $15 in recent weeks and when you add in shipping, that ups the final price to $25 or so. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
