A shot in the dark here...

Avon, the door to door cosmetics company, for years sold cologne in decorative decanters, many of which were automotive designs.

If I read the purview for this forum correctly, it should allow for "automotive replicas, in plastic and other materials," which although the decanters don't roll and are probably not considered toys in the strictest sense, hopefully these will be welcome.

I have had quite a few of these over the years, and they seemed to be a staple in flea markets for a very long time, but now seem to have all but disappeared. They are an acquired taste, but I would hope a new generation will discover them and enjoy them for their own charms. I still have an XKE Jag that I bought in the early '80's, as well as a Daytona Charger I found in a flea market in the mid '90's after looking for many years, and a Maxwell bought in early 2000. I will try to get pics when I think of them.

I suspect Avon contracted the manufacture and assembly, and concentrated more on the sales, I do not know who the actual manufacturers would have been. Avon, to my knowledge, has not made any automotive themed decorative cologne decanters in many years, the last as I recall were in the early to mid '90's.

A couple of samples:

I think because Avon bottles were so plentiful for so long they got to a point that nobody cared...and so they faded away. Now they are getting to be hard to find in nice shape.

Very nice! My Grandfather collected these for many years. When he passed, the Family got of rid of them. Pity.

I had (have somewhere I'm sure) a '65 Mustang decanter that my Mom got out of an Avon catalog in the mid '90s. I had no idea they did a Daytona- would love to see pics of that one!

Up here they fetch a few pennies at local flea markets and antique stores, 20 to 25 $ a bottle (empty)

AVON bottle collecting is quite a hobby in itself

Thanks for the additional pics- I'm pretty sure the Mustang I have somewhere is green. The Daytona is cool, thanks for the pics!

I discussed things with Dave today and as he was unfamiliar with the Avon decanters I explained their size to him, and he said it wouldn't qualify within the small scale focus of this section. So I've taken the liberty of moving this to Large Scale, because this is a fascinating topic not often discussed on diecast forums!

On a side note, if you'd like to do any other write-ups on 1/50 & larger manufacturers, I would enjoy reading about them! I admit, my focus is almost entirely on 1/64 and there's a world of large scale diecast I'm completely unfamiliar with but would enjoy learning more about!

I am glad you have left this in teh system, I find it fascinating and remember some of these bottles from younger days when wearingg after shave was politically correct. No that my wife is allergic to almost all perfumes, my after shave wearing days are over. I do see these from time to time at second hand and antique stores, they want good $ for these collectibles, We have 1 of the famous Avon collectible bottles a lighthouse.

Even though tghese are not diecast, but glass and plastic, they are car replica, and we can spend a little time admiring Avon's input into making these cars even more timeless.

Thanks for posting.

Now to find a couple medium priced units, just to say I have 1 or 2.

Always! A lot of time and energy go into researching and posting these topics- there's no way we'd delete something just because it doesn't quite fit in with the theme. When something new pops up we just expand the focus of the board and open up new possibilities. I look forward to whatever else yuo'd like to share.

Well, these from my collection are car-related:

These are about 4 or 5 inches tall, so I guess the scale may be 3:1? :P

*In Memory Of*
This takes me back. I had quite a few but now only one car and one gas pump. My mom was an Avon dealer in my youth. I wonder what became of them? Thanks for the memories.

:1: Great display of the Avon decanters. I suspect there are many of us who have or had these over the years. My mom use to always get them for me as gifts...or even just because she knew I loved cars. Among the many I have are a '58 Edsel and a '51 Studebaker. Most have been packed away for many years - I remember packing them up at the old family home after my father died and we sold the house. Somehow, just have never got around to uppacking many of those boxes. Maybe a good project for a cold, winter evening. I, too. am glad this posting has continued.

Very nice straight 8 there!

I was hoping these would be well received...they don't get much press anymore, but for a long time they were a staple in a lot of homes. At one time or another I've had a lot of these in the pictures and over time I parted with most of them, but I still get a smile on my face every time I see them.

Thank you everybody! Please share more if you have them!
