The car for today is Hot Wheels 2007 Porsche 911 GT2.

Wikipedia.com

The Porsche 911 GT2 is a sports car built by the German manufacturer Porsche since 1994

It is based on the 911 Turbo, and uses a similar twin-turbocharged engine, but features numerous upgrades, including engine upgrades, larger brakes, and stiffer suspension calibration. The GT2 is significantly lighter than the Turbo due to its use of rear-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive, and the lightening or removal of interior components.

HWs released this one in the 2010 New Models. It's heavily influenced imo by MB and their 'realistic' styling of cars they've done in the last few years. Realism in stock cars from HWs in the $1 line is a step in the right direction. Nice to see a car from them not have a blasted chrome interior too. ;)

I saw this one today. Inferior to the MB casting. I'm no Porsche nut, so I'm not getting it just complete the GT3/GT2 variation or whatever.

I'm partial to the old 911s but I would buy this one because it looks real good. I love the fact they used clear plastic for the headlights. I don't like tampoed lights on a diecast.

That's exactly what I thought. I saw about eight of them in Asda yesterday and I decided against buying one. It's probably closer to 1:64 than the Matchbox but it looks nowhere near as nice. And it still frustrates me that two arms of what is the same company aka Mattel make models of the same cars when they could be making different castings that haven't been done before.

Oh, no, James. No. What could possibly be more inspiring than making the 1,317th tooling of yet another Mustang or Camaro? Don't you understand? :P

I bought this one the other day. Any time HW does a regular stock car, I'm buying it. However, their penchant for covering Matchbox ground is a bit disturbing. What was the point of both lines doing an Audi R8? I myself would've preferred a reprise of, say, a vintage GT Quattro by Matchbox, but, then I don't make these decisions.

I love the R34, by the way- it is, for all intents and purposes, a Matchbox without a Matchbox base. It shows to me that Matchbox is in good stead.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Both efforts from Mattel are nice. Although I'm not a Porsche fan in the least, I bought both for the reason Sak mentioned----realistic castings.

Fantastic advertising tool! I thought it was some web designer's college project or something right up until the real ad broke me free of mediocrity!

Makes two of us! I'm thrilled to see Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and GreenLight (and M2 & MotorMx with their seperate headlights) all going this route on some of their new castings. It really adds to the look of the car!
