Support your local demo derby.

Let's look at the candidates one by one, from a derby worthy perspective of course:

'82 Firebird - Awesome for compacts

'76 Caddy - Just think if Caddilac actually made a stock from the factory wagon, that would be the ultimate GM derby car.

'58 Edsel - A true old school throwback car . . . sweet full framer with stock rear leaf springs . . . some are still ran today and do well in full weld shows.

'66 Dodge A100 - Any vehicle where your first line of defense is your steel toed boot, can't be good. Instant DEATH TRAP!

'79 Mazda RX-7 - Actually have seen a pic of one of these ran in a compact show that was posted on wecrash. Wasn't the first car out, but didn't win.

'86 Rolls - Better suited for circle banger racing in the UK than any derby type of action.

'90 Chevy Lumina - One of the best small cars if the rules state that 108" wheelbase cars can run. Often ran with the tried and true 'Iron Duke' 4 banger, the Lumina's feature fwd and a super heavy box style front sub frame that have been deemed the 'Imperial' of compacts.

So based on my anaylysis, I'd have to go with the Caddy Hearse . . . if they were allowed! Hearses of course, are banned at most shows, so based on that rule, I'm picking the Edsel. :D

It isn't often that the Edsel can be number one on a list - cool to see it holding onto a nice lead this week.

Love your thinking Crafty...but if I'm not mistaken the back bodies on the ambulances and hearses were fiberglass...companies like Superior bought commercial chassis, basically truck chassis and the body back to the cowl...possibly some of the lower body was steel, but the upper parts AFAIK were fiberglass. The chassis would be great for derbys, but I don't think the body would last at all.

really tough call between the edsel and the ambulance...both would be warmly welcomed into my collection.
