The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

![]() Today's car of the day is Hot Wheels' 1987 Nissan Hardbody. ![]()
![]() For more information and pictures of the real car please visit: Nissan Hardbody ![]() For Ivan's benefit, this release has lightly tinted blue glass. I'm sure that's the most glaring fault on this one... I actually like this model and the few scrapes and chips were put into it by me. This one dates to my childhood (well, somewhere around 12-13 anyway) and survived pretty intact. ![]()

1) Sweet childhood survivor 2) Sure, Ivan will just LOVE the pink interior. 3) A yellow bowtie is crushed thus insuring that James will have a smile. |

It's okay, the car next to it is a Ford. Click the thumbnail and you should be able to guess which one. |

I have all of those, with the possible exception of the Blue Streak Series version. I can't remember if I ever completed that segment or not... |

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
|
Arrrrrrr, CRAFTY got it right, the pink INTERIOR is way over the top. So the center plastic piece also gives us a pink front and roll bar. I like the yelow/green version posted by peggers much better. Pink as a car color is good, I collect and make those. But an INTERIOR?? Blue or green tinted glass, if light, doesn't bother me on most castings, I have plenty of those, but it's the yellow, orange, red and dark blue or green that irks me, especially on a European sedan. |

My first NEW car was a '88 Nissan Hardbody...4cyl 2X4 long bed automatic...got 300 thousand miles out of it before trading. I remember when this HW came out, and was so bummed by the motor in the bed that I just never really got around to buying one for the collection. In the showroom in '88 was a model called the Desert Runner: ![]() I always thought Mattel would have been so much better off to do that version instead... Edited by juantoo3, Nov 9 2010, 12:52 AM.

Oh yeah, that would've rocked! On a side note- the engine isn't hard to remove. Very simple custom- throw a camper back or cap on the back and you're good to go. Or if you really want to customize it, fill in the hole with some putty or Bondo and resculpt the bed. |

The big engine bothered me as a kid, too. One of my childhood survivors (in white) has the engine removed and a "bedliner mat" cut out of thin gum-wrapper foil, which has done a nice job neatly concealing the casting hole in the bed. Dean |
