Today's car of the day is Tomica's 2010 Honda Insight.

Wikipedia

The Honda Insight is a hybrid electric vehicle manufactured by Honda and the first production vehicle to feature Honda's Integrated Motor Assist system. The first-generation Insight was produced from 1999 to 2006 as a three-door hatchback.[1][2]

Honda introduced the second-generation Insight to its home market of Japan in February 2009. On March 24, 2009, the new Insight went on sale in the United States.[3] At $19,800 as a five-door hatchback it is the least expensive hybrid available in the US.[4] The Insight was launched in April 2009 as the most affordable hybrid on the market with a starting price from £15,490 (otr), which was more than £2,000 lower than other hybrids, and became the best selling hybrid in the U.K.[5][6] Honda's Insight, billed as the cheapest gas-electric hybrid on the market, ranked as the top-selling vehicle in Japan for April 2009, the first time a hybrid has clinched that spot.[7] During its first twelve months after first available in the Japanese market, the second-generation Insight sold 143,015 units around the world.[8] In 2006, Honda CEO Fukui expects the second generation Insight to reach worldwide sales of about 200,000 "within about two years after sales start".

Tomica and Matchbox are the first two to introduce the second generation Insight in small scale. This is a nice model with opening hatch, but I think I have to give the nod to the Matchbox as being the nicer of the two.

Wikipedia

In 2009, Honda introduced its second-generation Insight based on an all-new, 5-passenger, 5-door, dedicated hybrid platform. The concept version of the Insight hatchback hybrid electric vehicle had made its public debut at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. and its North American debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. In the US, the new Insight is classified as a compact car based on its interior volume.

Even though I try not to make a habit of buying multiple castings of the same model, I bought this one off ebay and then a few months later found the Matchbox version. The Tomica is a nice casting but I also prefer the Matchbox version.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Rear view: Shades of an old Citroen. Or Pontiac Aztec?
I see some progress in making a hybrid not the usual ugly and boring. This is a good step. Offering it for under $20 thou is even a better step.
I still am not noble enough to buy or even drive such a car. A pirate in a hybrid? Arrrrrrrr......

Having both Tomica colors I have to say I prefer the red. And just yesterday I found the MB Insight, @ Meijers in Indiana. It looks good but I think a comparo is in order when I get back to Phoenix.
