ABARTH (IT) 1950-1971

This firm was founded by Carl Abarth in Turin. He had formerly been affiliated with Cistalia. In addition to producing his own cars, Abarth also provided modified bodies for FIAT, Porsche, Alfa-Romeo and Simca. Abarth also became active in the racing scene, but this latter venture was unsuccessful and led to liquidation of his company. As a result, FIAT assumed control of his operation.

One recognized model of this car was produced by Tomica . A few other manufacturers have also produced this model. Photos and comments are welcome.

I guess this is the Tomica you are talking about - the Fiat 131 Abarth Rally:

But it isn't the only one - there's also this Politoys Abarth 2000 Pininfarina:

Here's some pics of the real thing: http://www.lotusespritturbo.com/Abarth_2000_Pininfarina.htm

And then there's this one - the Majorette Fiat Ritmo in Abarth trim:

Sure, the base plate only identifies it as a Fiat - but it is a car of some historical importance as it was the last Abarth to be built in a separate factory from its Fiat siblings, so I think it should count.

I am almost sure there will be more - didn't MB also make the 131 Abarth?

Yes they did, and Zylmex copied it. I don't have any pics handy of either, however.

Here's another one I forgot earlier - the Majorette Autobianchi A112 Abarth:

I hit ebay to see if I could identify more Abarth castings as I was pretty sure they are out there. So far I've found:

Tootsietoy Abarth 2000 Pininfarina
Current Fiat 500 Abarth by Motorama (with launcher) - not sure if this counts as Abarth now is only a trim and engine spec
Penny Abarth 2000 Race Car (different from the Pininfarina)
Schuco Piccolo Porsche Abarth 356 (again, only the body is by Abarth - does that count?)
Schuco Piccolo Fiat 131 Abarth Rally
Philmar Super Wheels Abarth 2000 (Philmar???)

That's all I could find.

There's more! Including Zylmex, Faie and Metalmodel (Poland).

Off subject... just watched a series of 5 early 70s Italian movies (with similar soundtrack like Morricone)....one of the movies had an Autobianchi. By the way, the bad guys always have a Citroen DS.
The Majo is exquisite.

Save the Autobianchi pic for the upcoming info on this car as a separate marquee . I am using w/ups done by Christian F from 2004-2006 that we did for TofTC , I had hoped he would again join me in presenting an update of these historical summaries. But as time passes, different priorities affect different people. Christian wrote about the European brands, while I handled the remainder for that 2 year project! I hesitated treading into this since I do not claim to be knowledgeable of International makes replicated in small scale. Thus, I am citing only one model for each make and leaving the rest of the listing and pix up to you our Garage members to add to!
