1977 Oldsmobile Toronado XSR

I learned something about the above car tonight during a Google search, attempting to confirm the car's year I had listed. From what I read, the Toronado XSR was the model designation for the version seen above, with power sliding t-tops, which slid into the roof, toward one another, and stored one over the other. The Toronado XS, which was the same car, but with a moonroof instead of t-tops, was the only version that saw production. The T-Top XSR example(s) was/were slated for destruction, but the American Sunroof Company (ASC), who was responsible for supplying the technology and design for the power t-tops, obtained the rights to one of the pre-production examples, and used it at car shows before it was sold off to a car dealer with 19,000 miles on it. The history of the one known-to-exist example is quite detailed, and there is debate as to if there may have been more than one XSR that survived destruction when the production plan was killed.

In any case, the design of the car, with the wrap-around rear window, is identical to the production Toronado XS, with the exception of the roof configuration. Pretty interesting history.

Beautiful! My Pulsars are buried in a box and I've never been able to check a question regarding the Pulsar, which was brought up last year: I'm not sure if anyone ever answered Swifty's question in his two-seater commuter car's of the 80's article, but that sharp picture shows what appears to be a back-seat in there!!

Now THIS is the Garage I remember. ;) Tomica love galore! :D

On a side note, I love the Oldsmobile Toronado XS/XSR. I remember finding the Tomica at the Hershey Matchbox show and immediately purchasing it. At the time I had no clue anyone had done the car, let alone Tomica! I even did an emoticar of it:

You have no idea how long I searched for a good usable picture of a real XS!
