The VW- Porsche 914 and 914/6 sports cars were the products of a joint venture between the above two companies and the Karmann Body Works. Some say this mid- engine car was the successor to the VW- Karmann-Ghia rear engine Type III coupe which was never imported to the US dealerships. The 914 / 916 were offered to customers with the choice of either a VW or Porsche engine. The bodies were made by Karmann. The squarish style of the car was a radical change from previous Porsches. Thus success was limited in marketing this model. It is interesting to note that this car was produced many years before Porsche recently became part of VW Group .

The present issue in small scale by Matchbox is a very good representation of the fullsize car.

Actually, it is mid-engined car, not rear engine.

Here's the latest from MB:

- I'll take a pic of the Schuco later. These are all I have. There's a Playart and a Faller too - but I don't know of any others.

These were a favorite of young Airmen who returned to Canada from tours of duty in Germany or France to bring home with them. I lived on an Air Force base when I was young and would regularily see them driving around

Thanks for the correction; Patrick . I do appreciate it! No sense stating incorrect info! The pic fits the spot!

Not my car, or my picture. Saved from Hobby Talk many years ago, I forget who originally posted them.
