Station Wagon

Pretty sure this was my 1st (R) rated movie at the Drive-in were I wasn't sent immediately to the back of the station wagon. It was a double feature, followed by Patton.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() .. |

Can't help but love that 54 Chevy Sedan Delivery. I just won another on the 'bay a few minutes ago, so now I can Hot Rod the one I already have. I had a model kit years ago of a drop axle gasser made from a 54 Sedan Delivery... I saw one in the last couple of days in a huge lot, was orange colored with the chevy logo on the sides, but according to the seller still labelled on the base as an ambulance...of course, an ambulance would have windows on the sides. I don't recall seeing Sedan Deliveries used as ambulances in the movie M*A*S*H, I'm pretty certain they were not used in the tv series. Great little set there, I hadn't seen all the little extra toys before! Where's Radar? ![]() ![]() Edited by juantoo3, Feb 2 2011, 06:04 PM.

The Chevy Sedan Delivery is probably one Radar created after he got back home to Iowa with all those parts he shipped home. I remember buying all of the MASH items when they came out and had them on display in my apartment in Spokane, WA. Enjoyed the TV show (and movie) and the little models that Zee created. The tent and latrine were need extra's that added to the fun of displaying the models. |

I don't know about the chevy being in the series, Didn't a local nun who wore kakis drive one. I'm not sure how many episodes she was in.. Here's a catalog pic I stole off the net.. ![]() I have 2 halftracks plus 2 more bell helicopters and a jeep with trailer I didn't include in the pic. It was something I threw together quick and was getting a little congested.. another section for that table of dioramas I'm going to build some day.... You may know how that goes.. |

nice set...one comment: an ambulance for use in a combat zone would not have side glass. |

Good point. All the more reason I don't think Sedan Deliveries were actually part of the series or the movie as they did try to maintain some semlence of believability. (At least its not MBX passing off a Willys Gasser as Greased Lightning or a Ford Crown Vic as a Checker Cab...) If I'm not mistaken, and it has been awhile since I've seen any episodes, I believe they made extensive use of old Dodge Powerwagons. Not having served in Korea at the time, I am under the impression that those Powerwagons are period correct for that era. I do know the non-Powerwagon military ambulances I have seen from the era (Cadillacs and Packards) didn't have as much side glass, but they still had some in the back corners that certainly let a person know by sight that they were not Sedan Deliveries. They did look odd for an ambulance, so I have to give credit there, and no doubt the ones I saw (one was Air Force) were intended for use stateside, not in a forward combat zone. Whereas the Powerwagon was modified for quite a wide variety of uses at the front lines, not only as ambulances. I was thinking (dangerous I know), those twin rotor Chinook type helicopters didn't come out until the 60s, right? Last I checked, the Korean conflict was in the early half of the 50s. Still, even outside of the M*A*S*H connection, this is a very nice military play set. Edited by juantoo3, Feb 3 2011, 02:54 PM.
