I am not sure that open wheeled cars faired well in any 1/64th scale area, Maybe Tomica, was the best. It seemed for many years at least in this area they were peg warmers. The larger scales seemed to fair much better. While I am sure there are devote Indy collectors, I do not think they number as great as the door slammer group.

I would agree - I think the series with the Indy cars and most of the NHRA cars did not last more than a year or two. About the time RC brought out the Indy cars, I was still a fairly big follower of the series (and NASCAR) and snatched these up as well as the offerings from Matchbox. I notice when the various Indy cars end up on sale forums they tend to sit and sit and sit - as you noted, doesn't seem to be the big following for Indy in the little car world.
