I am sure I'm not the only one who has notice how many cars Tomica and Matchbox share these days. And here is another example. I know what I think, but let us hear your thoughts (without mentioning that I accidentally smeared a bit of chocolate biscuit on the rear of the Tomica... :duh:) :![]() ![]() ![]()

I like the MB version better. The front end detail is superior in my mind. It has mirrors and more realistic wheels too. I do like that the Tomica has a metal casted bed. What's the scale of the Tomica? TY for the pics Patrick. |

I like the Tomica better. I've never seen the real truck though, so I'm not sure which one is more accurate, but the Tomica wins for me by having plastic inserts for the headlights and a working suspension. It loses points by having solid cast rear side winows. |

The Tomica version is very nice. Jeweled lights, and an actual B pillar. Why can't Matchbox mold B pillars anymore, when Hot Wheels does? |

Although Tomy is my first preference, I can the good in both castings. The headlights on the Tomy are better, yet the MB has more detail on the rear. The Tomy has the solid small windows, with a clean bed, yet the MB has all windows and "junk in the trunk." I like the clean bed of the Tomy. The MB has better wheels and a sunroof so that's a plus. Great pics... Thank you for sharing. |

On the whole, I must say the look of the MB captures the car better - the wheels certainly help there. The Tomica has some nicer details especially front and back but loses out in other areas. The ironic thing is that just as I posted how close MB has become to Tomica, I saw the Ambassador's report and the tampo horrors MB will dish out next year. A pity if they really go ahead with the bright paint / garish tampo plan. (PS: I was very surprised to hear that you've never seen one - they are everywhere here, and one just happens to be parked in my driveway) Edited by diecastdingo, May 25 2011, 06:55 AM.

I'm not even sure if they're sold in the USA, or if it's just my area (not a whole lot of Mitsubishis here). I've never seen one, and this is a distinctive enough design that it would stand out among other pickups. |

They're not sold in the US. Mitsubishi's small truck here is (or was? Sean's right, Mitsubishi hardly sells anything in the States anymore) a badge-engineered Dodge Dakota. Anyway, they're both fantastic. I'd reserve my "better" designation to the one that was closer to the 1:1 if I was more familiar with how the 1:1 looked. |

I keep hearing rumors that Mitsubishi may leave the US market. I only see one with any regularity (one of the girls at work has a 2006 Galant). Every once in awhile I will see an Eclipse from the '90s, but none of the newer ones. Pity they don't bring something unique like this here. |

Correct, these are not available in the U.S., but they are fairly popular in Mexico, and I have seen a few visiting on this side of the border. They are a nice looking truck, and I have to guess that maybe the import tariffs on imported trucks is what keeps this one (and the Toyota Hilux) from being offered in the states. -It must be more profitable to build your truck in the states (Mitsubishi Raider, Toyota Tacoma and Tundra), instead of importing one and paying the government fees. -Or perhaps it is something as silly as U.S. bumper regulations, or some other red-tape....??? More recently, I've seen a rather handsome SUV, based on this Triton / L200 pickup design, but it too had Mexico license plates, of course. It looked very much like a modern, updated Montero Sport. If it were sold here, I'm sure it would run sales circles around the Endeavor. Lancers are very popular out here, but other Mitsubishi models are (sadly) nearly non-existent. One of my daily drivers is a 2002 Galant. Without a doubt, the 8th generation Galant (1999-2003) still far outnumbers the 9th generation Galant (2004-2011) on the roads here, despite the 8th gen. being about 10 years old now, and only being in production for about half the amount of time as the 9th. I actually counted how many Mitsubishis I saw yesterday: 4 One bright red '90s Eclipse & a green Mirage while driving, and two in the parking lot at work. In one block I saw three Oldsmobiles. I saw more Mercurys as well. |

Mine is the previous body style - but they are the second most popular Ute around here after the HiLux - that's why I was so surprised that they weren't sold in the US. That - and the fact that both MB and Tomica are selling them in the US:

I believe that the Matchbox scales a slight lead over the Tomica. Between the wheels, casting detail and proportions, the Matchbox takes the cake. |

This was a close one, but I like the matchbox one better. As mbx64 said, there is a bit more detail on the matchbox one. |
