The All Original Gentleman
|
So, finally picked up a Hot Wheels Renault Megane Trophy. Decided to quickly whip up some pics with the little camera since there were a few requests to have this done up. I figure amongst the lot of you, we can tell which is which. ![]() ![]() Hot Wheels ![]() Majorette ![]() Majorette is a tad bigger, with yellow gloss paint, while the heavier tampoed Hot Wheels example has an almost neon green yellow metallic paint. ![]() Kudos to the HW team for using two small FTE wheels on both the front and back, mind you Majorette at least comes remotely close when it comes to the style of wheel used. As always the Majorette has suspension for a smooth ride, whereas the HW surprisingly has wobbly out of box no suspension. ![]() Majorette has jeweled lights from the windscreen, while HW has the now traditional tampoed lights with no windscreen wiper molded in. Both have molded emblems on the front with a tampo on top, with silver for Majorette, and grey for HW. Majorette has tampoed the bottom fascia, while HW has made it part of their base, with the chicken wire pattern on it. ![]() Majorette has tampoed on the tri light, brake lights, and both Renault logos, while HW has only molded an emblem and tri light. The exhaust pipes on the Majorette are plastic, as though they are a license plate and the rest is a tampo, while the entirety of the black area on the HW is plastic. The HW has an unintentionally removable wing. (Pops on and off. Child safety hazard much?) ![]() HW sits lower, while Majorette sits high due to suspension. Mirrors are also molded on the Majorette while the HW does not. ![]() An opening boot on the Majorette is a win, while further investigation of the interior leads to an interesting comparison. The Majorette has a detailed steering wheel, a sport seat, and a electric box, while HW has a blob steering wheel, a highly detailed sports seat, with many details and buttons throughout, including a full roll cage. (Sorry, no images available at this time.) ![]() Majorette has the B pillar molded in, while HW has this part of the one piece windscreen. HW has added some vents on top of the front wheel arches, and tampoed small silver details here and there which are not present on the Majorette. Though the tampos are nice on the HW, emphasizing on the racing, brand logos, and hood pins, I still like the overall execution on the Majorette. Lastly, the HW example has heavily tinted windows, while Majorette has clear and open windows. (The only glazing on the Majorette is the windscreen.) In my opinion, the Hot Wheels example is actually really nice. This is good for the fans of the Renault Megane Trophy who may not be able to have a Majorette example. The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

The Majorette would be the hands-down winner if these were both 1/64. But the Majorette looks to be more like 1/55, making this a bit unfair for Hot Wheels. That said, the Majorette is still getting my vote. |

The Majorette is nicer of the two even if it does cost more. |

I had to go with the Majorette sample. I am surprised Hot Wheels didn't tampo their logo all over theirs.. |

I tried to remove the spoiler on my HW Meganes...you're right! I can't believe they released it like that with all the liability risk you get in the States anymore. |

Majorette hands down - the overall detailing on the car makes it much nicer than the Hot Wheels version. |
