40 years of BMW in blue; Yatming 1017 and 1216 side by side

My Yatmings are stored by marque, so these BMWs live nearby in the Jammers case. Together they represent great bookends of the Yatming small-scale legacy, the 2800 sedan being among the very first castings and the 335i among the latest.

They make a nice pair, don't you think?

Very nice comparison.

I think I need to find that 335i for my collection.

I don't know how to organize my collection.

Support your local demo derby.

Very cool side by side set of pics. Yet to see the vintage one in person.

I haven't seen either of these in person before. Both are extremely well done, and I love Yat Mings and I love the color blue so it should come as no surprise I love both of these!

The blue 2800 is very nice. My only yat 2800 is a peach color, if I am remembering correctly. That blue is vastly prettier.

Both need a splash of red on the tail lights.

@NoirGuru, as far as organization goes, I separate cars in Jammers first by manufacturer, then by marque, model and year. It's not a perfect system, but it's the best I can do at this point. Others I know separate only by marque, model and year, but I've been collecting too long to start over with that system.

@craftymore, Swifty, and JustDavid, glad you enjoyed the photos! Thanks for the comments.

@Dean, I've never seen a peach version. I have seen this model in a lighter blue with red, white and blue tampos on the hood and roof. That was a later version with a metal base and second edition wheels. The only one I have is the dark blue one above.

It's been great to find some collectors who enjoy these Yatmings as much as I do!

Your system of organization sounds similar to mine...or what I've tried to do. I use ArtBin storage boxes (found at JoAnns) that hold up to 32 cars each. I have them sorted by brand (ie Tomy/MB/HW) then by by make (Mercedes/Toyota/ect) in alphabetical order. It's not a perfect system by any means, but it *sort of* works and I know what cars are where.

I have 'em sorted out by brand. The only ones I'm really obsessive about would be the Lesneys. I have them stored by numerical/chronological order. 1A, 1B, 1D, 2A, 2D, etc. Superfast is stored the same way. After that, since the numbers were removed from the baseplates right around the time Lesney went into receivership, it gets kind of careless.

Hot Wheels-the redlines and blackwalls are all together. After that, every car for himself.

Come up with your own system, Jermaine. You'll never appreciate any storage system so much as your own :)

That BMW 2800 is one I never knew existed. It's the first Yatming I've ever drooled over

Yes, the light blue version with these tampos is the one I have. Like the Opel Admiral, it is a fairly obvious Schuco copy but still very nice.

I sheepishly admit that my memory failed me yet again. I can't for the life of me find anything peach that I could have possibly inaccurately remembered being this BMW.

Anyway, here's my actual 2800....in light blue. Still the older casting, with plastic base and no tampos. I still stand by my original statement that I like your darker blue variation far better.

That light blue BMW is no slouch! I also prefer the dark blue, but the light blue is also a very sharp model I'd be happy to own.

I think that's the most common variation. Albeit that's a relative term because I've never run across any examples of this casting in two decades of going to toy shows and flea markets!

The addition of the tampo is an obvious difference, but the newer wheels are what really make me want to find that variation, as well!

Great photo Dean. We could really use it over here in this thread when you get a chance.

Same goes for the one with the tampos, Spennyman. Please post it in the database when you have a chance. Thanks!
