2 YatMing questions

Please bear with me if this has been covered before...I looked back in the threads but didn't see it.

#1. Is Yatming still producing cars? Only 1/18th scale is on the website. Some cool 50s cars that I wish were available in our scale, too. Looking through the Database I see some newer cars in the tooling bank and I'm wondering where/when they came from. When I found the 1950 GMC at K-B back in 2008 it was the first time I had seen a Yat Ming product for sale in a very long time.

#2. Are issues without the Yatming name on the bottom still Yat Ming, or were they something else? I have quite a few that I are clearly Yat Ming tooling but have nothing at all on the chassis.
Like this one, for example-

Thanks in advance!

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
1. Yes, Yat Ming is still doing 1/64. They're available at Meijer's (which unfortunately is only located in the Midwest) among other places.

2. That's not a Yat Ming. That said, only the earliest Yat Mings are marked on the base. I always recommend going by the wheels as that's the easiest way of telling you've got a Yat Ming.

Thanks for the fast reply! I remember visiting Meijer's when I went to Toledo every October from 2003-2008. That was the first place I had seen a Greenlight which is what got me back into the non-NASCAR side of the hobby. Wish we had them over here, they were cool stores.

I thought it was...shows what I know, lol. Howabout this one?

I think I'm going to have to create a thread in the various section and see if I can get some of these unlabeled cars labeled!

That fox body Mustang isn't a Yatming. I think it could be of Welly decent. Most older Yatmings have 6 dot wheels. Newer Yats have wheels like the one Swifty did for cotd a few days ago.

http://swiftysgarage.net/topic/6817431/1/#new

^That's from the 800 series that YM produces which competes with Summer and other 'cheapie' brands. The 1,000 series Yats often had metal bodies, metal bases and opening doors plus a 'working' suspension. These are among the more desired ones.

A few years ago YM released several new series in 1/64 that included pickup trucks from the 30s-50s as well as some Vettes and '57 Chrysler 300. These all had to my knowledge 'chrome' plastic bases, diecast bodies, and upscale rubber tires. Some had opening features such as hoods and a Mack truck had opening doors. These were commonly found at KB Toys.

Billy, if you have unknown castings that aren't marked, take pics and post them in the general diecast section. Someone can usually ID them pretty quickly.

I really wish they put something on the chassis then! Make is easier to find out what's what, especially after you've had them for 20 years or so. I'll have to post them...my unknown album has 306 images in it so that might take me some time! It wouldn't require that many posts though as there are some with multiple issues of the same casting. If any of you want to check it out and leave me any comments I would not mind :)

I just realized I probably should not have used the numbers listed by Fotki, since as you remove some, the numbers will change, but I hope the lists helps with a bunch of the identification.

You will notice that a lot of the China manufacturer's diecast looks a lot like the one another. Sharing/copying someone else's work was (is still?) commonly encouraged in China, and so you'll find that a lot of the Summer castings are strikingly similar to Rhino and another brand, who used the blacked-out wheels, but not the ring wheels used on Rhino castings. Both Rhino and the other brand copied Summer's castings, but shrunk them down, and they are usually cheaper feeling. It's a complicated mess, that takes some time to get used to and be able to identify a maker based on casting characteristics, and the biggest clue: the wheel design.

If Billy has that many Rhinos, Summers and Wellys already in his collection, he's already a true believer in the dark side!

And that's OK...we have pizza and beer!

Wes makes a good point. Take Pegers for example. Before he became a member here on the Garage he was a committed hot wheels variation collector. After he became a member here, he turned to the true dark side of diecast . . . YATMING!

Regarding the Summer and Rhino models, they usually came in big gift sets of 25 to 50 cars. Many are various ages, so I would guess a few of those sets, from different years....and wham-o, a collection of (very) dark side diecast!

Wow...Dean...Thank you so much!! I'm very much indebted to you now!! I'll work on labeling them over the next few days. I'll leave them in that album until I can finish updating my Excel collection chart, too. You've covered most of them in such a short amount of time! I got most of these in the 80s and 90s, and the packages are long gone. Some of them I even got loose.

We've never had a lot of money, and a big package of cheapo cars always satisfied my never-ending desire for new cars for not a lot of cash spent...that's how I got, I would wager, 75% of the cars in this album...and they would fly pretty good getting hit by a heavier Matchbox, Hot Wheels or even Road Champs issue! So many cars I hurt in my almost daily dining room rides. :(

I will happily accept payment in the form of one of those green Tintoys Celicas!! Hahaha.

I really enjoy all brands of diecast, even the crude. Anyone here will tell you, I am one of the very few who is not ashamed to admit that I even have a strong passion for Summer models! Quite a few more of your unknowns will become 'knowns' after I can think/research a little more. Once you are able to get the identified ones reorganized, we can take another stab at the remaining unknowns.

Nice to have you here!

I see pop-up headlights. I'm thinking this one may be a Firebird instead.

Aside from that, I'm not surprised at how many you named, though I'm quite impressed by how quickly you did it. I don't know any of the ones you don't, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten all of the ones right that you did!

Dean, if I knew where they went off to, that could have been arraged, but I have not seen them since 2008 and not sure when I will see them again. Being that I have duplicates, I would have trouble sending you one...if only I could find it!

I am truly happy to be here!!
