Support your local demo derby.

As it was based on the Chevelle/Malibu I think it was superior in looks to anything else Chevy made in 1970. It looks elegant and simple in metallic green.

The front end and other parts is very Chevelle/Malibu, but the idea came from the personal luxury coupe Grand Prix. Both great looking cars with the Chevrolet as always being a little more spartan and simplistic in design.

Excellent pictures again, Daniel.

To go along with your pictures above I thought that I would memntion probably the ultimate
1970 Monte Carlo; that would be the Monte Carlo SS 454.
Of 130,657 Montes built, 3823 had the SS 454 package.

The SS454 badging is actually near the front corner on the chrome rocker panel strip on each side.
The SS badging also shows up under the Monte Carlo insignia on the right side at the rear below the trunk lid.

Beautiful Monte@Cobra. I don't think we ever got a 70-72 red with a black vinyl top from JL did we?

It surprised me to find out they did. This was the debut version of the casting.

I'm even more surprised that the casting has only been used 8 times with only 7 stock color releases. Bring this one back Tom. ;)

The 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is on the Automotive News (October 2011) top 10 Chevy (all time) list:

"Here's a top 10 list, in chronological order, from Gary Witzenburg, who has been writing about automobiles for 23 years. He is a former auto engineer, race driver and advanced technology vehicle development manager."

1970 MONTE CARLO

Chevy's first "personal luxury" coupe (along with Pontiac's Grand Prix) completed GM's response to Ford's popular Thunderbird. It was based on the mid-sized Chevelle, and, like other Bill Mitchell-era Chevys, it was beautifully proportioned and styled, with a long hood, a short deck and a gracefully sweeping roof. It offered a lower-priced luxury alternative to the Buick Riviera, Oldsmobile Toronado and Cadillac Eldorado luxury coupes.

The article falls to mention Elliot "Pete" Estes, who was at that time the general manager of Chevrolet and responsible for
the creation of the 1970 Monte Carlo.

I can see I need to browse Wyatt's site more often. The colors that stood out in my head were green (seen above), blue, silver, white with vinyl top and black with vinyl top.

That red one is the only one missing out of my collection. Its not an easy car to get when you don't shop ebay. I think those years Montes were beautiful and tough looking at the same time. Thanks Cobra for the information. I love your tidbits of info on each car we post.

Gorgeous! And the real car was owned by ParkRNDL from Hobby Talk. The white Heavy Chevy Chevelle JL did belonged to his brother, also. Both cars were long gone before the releases came out, and their photocards were from decades old pictures. It's been awhile since I saw the cards, but I think you can see the Monte in the background of the Chevelle's card.

A vast improvement over those crappy plastic tires and ugly wheels that came on the original version.
I like how this one turned out.
Thanks for sharing.

JL and Hot Wheels both have this tooling and both enjoy slipping Hollywood cars into their respective lines. This is a no brainer- all you need to tool is a new windshield piece to have the smashed rear glass missing, and the front window scratched to bits.

Yes. ;) One of my favorite movies! The first sequel was pretty good too.
