How do you keep up with what you have. How do you remember what car came from what set. For me, I have no spred sheet, no long list, I tag mine several ways. Since the mid 90's I tag the cars I open as soon as I open them. ![]() ![]() ![]() If it is an extra it may be labeled this way. placed in a plastic bag with the card and a slip of paper that tells what set, seriesand set number. ![]() ![]() Then to a jammer. ![]() We just moved 2 years ago so alot of mine are still in stroage. ![]() ![]() Still have a lot of boxes to unpack one day. Do not have my wall displays. so I'll buy more jammers when I can find them. ![]() ![]() So when you see one of my pics and you see something under the car its one of my tags. Jeff |

At one time, I had a large data-base with all my JL castings catalogued. Unfortunately, I had neglected to archive that list. When that computer crapped out suddenly one day, I lost everything. I was devested after that happened and have not attempted to create another one. That task would be extremely time consuming. I basically rely on memory and JLCollector now. On some castings, I add a tiny label as shown below. ![]() Cheers. Cobra |

By not having a way of keeping up what I have I can get more than one of a certain car. So I really have to be able to remember what I have. I see a lot of the local collectors with big thick notebooks trying to get one of everything. I do not have to have the whole set. Just the ones I like from that certain set. Jeff |

I rely on memory and do a good job with it. I have never had to carry any kind of book or notes when purchasing diecast. Memory serves me well. Jeff, I do like the idea of using the tags attached to castings. Easy recognition and appropiate data right in your hand. Cheers. Cobra |

The Mad Documenter!

I have my entire collection archived on Excel, although I have gotten behind on it- none of my new additions from September to current have been added- and I have it saved on my hard drive and two or maybe even three (I forget) flash drives. I also have the entire collection photographed and on my website. (Link is in signature) I have, in the past, purchased a couple thinking I did not have them, when in fact I did. I've also purchased some for custom donors only to cross check them against the pictures and discover they were a variation! |

I rely completely on memory and I get doubles by design. It doesn't hurt to get doubles as long I did not have to pay a whole lot for them. Use them for trade bait whenever possible. Making list of the cars that I have would create more work and less fun for me. Memory ,so far, has served me pretty good. There is a member at our HWs club that uses the same method that you do. |

I have a very photograhic memory so no need to document what I have. I do have a 2 and a half page list of my most wanted JLs, but still that is a photograhic type list easily remembered if lost. Plus I am only dealing with about 14 Jammers full of JLs probably not as much as others. I have very little of anything else HWs, Matchbox ect |

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!

I don't have any methods. One of the many purposes of Car Of The Day is to somewhat document my collection as actually taking pictures of every single car would be very time consuming, taking a few at a time is much more manageable. Of course since I acquire new cars faster than I take pics of old cars I'm so far behind I will probably never document the whole collection!

For what it's worth, it only took me two months to photograph all 8000 or so cars in my collection. |

Support your local demo derby.

I've only unknowingly bought the same JL twice. I've got several hundred JLs so it's not too difficult to memorize what I have. Helping matters is now I only collect a handful of castings for my stock collection. If I get doubles, it's typically for custom demo derby bait and paint scheme doesn't matter then. |
