It's the fiery hatchback that explodes down the quarter mile.

Daniel, I do like the excellent pictures and the wheel swap.
If I had a Chevy 327 CID engine with a Holley 4-barrel; it sure wouldn't be going into a Pinto.
That would probably be the last choice.

It was joke to liven it up some. I'm a Ford fan and that ford is one of the most unpopular to everyone. Though I like it maybe because it's ordinary and sometimes in life that's what we are just ordinary.

You still have to give cudos to JL for making this casting.
I definitely don't have a problem with the casting.
Actually, I like it.

I like the casting too as a Pinto not spending a boat load of money to make it into a race car....LOL

Have you looked under the hood? That car may have a V8. The orange one did.

No Pinto ever left the factory with anything bigger than an inline 6. But a lot of these got engine upgrades and turned into drag cars or hot rods... On the dragstrip lightweight and big engine = fast.

The Pinto had a V6 not an inline 6

What size was it RL? I used to have a 200 straight six in my 65 mustang coupe, well really it was a junkyard maverick straight 6 that killed a lot of mosquitos.

The V6 was a 2.8L They were first offered in 1975. Before that only 4s were available.

For some reason I thought they were using an inline six in the Pinto. I guess I should have double-checked before posting. :duh:

Support your local demo derby.

The only time now I see a Pinto is in the compact class at my local demo derby. Not sure where you'd go nowadays to find one in decent enough shape to use for a drag strip racer.

I see a few Pintos around this area that are still completely stock and look pretty good. There's a Pinto club that comes to an all Ford car show I attend every year.

Pinto came out in 71, the first wagon was a 72. My Dad's company car was a 72 wagon. Also, the first two years the 4 banger was a German engine, overall excellent reliability.

My Dad bragged for years about how he pulled stumps out of the ground with his, and got over 120 thousand miles before the company traded it for a Fairmont wagon. (This was back when almost all American cars were in the junkyard by the time they hit 100K, let alone a 4 banger) He used to say the timing belt would last either 5 thousand miles or a hundred and five thousand miles, and you had no way of telling which it was going to be!

Later on I had an abused 1980 model wagon for a time. It served the purpose, got me back and forth to work, but it was already beat when I got it...that's what you drive when you can't afford any better.

It's sad what happened to those schoolgirls that got rearended, and Ford had a tough time living that down, but they did recall and fix all the affected cars and changed the later ones. If I recall, the wagons weren't affected, and bit more beef between the bumper and gas tank. But that might be wishful thinking on my part.

Well at least you remembered to go with five lug hubs for the bigger engine..
