![]() ![]() I always did like this casting, it was used far too little. From what I've read, there was a lawsuit that brought a halt to the use of this casting. This one I just detampoed. Could still use some "regular" glass and decent wheels, but I think it already looks a lot better than it did. Edited by juantoo3, Jan 10 2012, 12:58 PM.

Wes - can you tell me how you know it is a GMC? - I am curious as I have seen this one listed as a Studebaker, a Chevy, etc - and would truly like to know what type of truck it is. It is kind of like the Hot Wheels Tail Dragger - I see some call it a Ford, a Lincoln and even a Mercury...and while they are all in the same family...it would be nice to know which brand it is. |

The Mad Documenter!

That is a Studebaker. GMCs of that time did not have the grillwork style extending down the side of the hood. |

![]() ref: http://lostintrainstation.files.wordpress.com/2011/04/4-37-gmc-truck.jpg This is a 37....I do need to correct myself though, I have seen it listed as a 39 GMC. ![]() Billy is right, the front and fenders are not full on correct, but this is a serious custom. If you look at the lines of the cab, particularly the windshield and over the roof, you will see the GMC. The rest of it could be anything...Hudson, Studebaker...only the builder knows for sure. |

![]() This is believed to be the car the HW was based on, built by Tucci Engineering ![]() Another view, and its pretty plain to see. ref: http://www.tuccihotrods.com/about_us.html And Tucci Engineering, the builders of this gorgeous rod, say it is based on a 39 GMC. So. Tex. lists the last one as Easter 2006. Considering it was an FE in 2002, and only 10 recognized varys, that's a pretty short run for what was a really promising casting. There is a TH with real riders, and two Early Times (both in '03) promos, the rest are mainline or set cars. |

I like this casting too and I had always thought it was a Chevy or GMC. Never knew what year it was but that is what my gut was telling me. I believe there is a actual truck just like that and not the one Wes showed. I had no ideal that they stopped using this casting. Looks like I need to keep an eye out for more of these trucks for customs down the road. It would look great with a few touches and different wheels on the first edition one. |

I'd like to know the details on the lawsuit if anyone remembers them. And I had always seen this one called Studebaker, nice to know what it really is! |

I wish I knew the details of the suit too, I stumbled on the info long after the fact. As I understood it, the Mattel designer tried to change the design enough to make it a non-liscensed product, but apparently the judge in the suit felt there was still too much similarity. The case is usually mentioned along with the Bad Mudder lawsuit issue, which was essentially the same thing, and why the original 98 issue Bad Mudder was not rereleased after the first edition. After looking through Google for about 20 minutes, I don't see anything. There may have been a gag order or something. Edited by juantoo3, Jan 11 2012, 10:24 AM.
