The Olds is the one I like best of this release (thankfully, it has windows, which probably grinds the banger racing guys, but I wouldn't be adding it to my collection without the windows). The hearse is a nice issue, as well. But once again, I'm left scratching my head as to why JL is insulting us with two cars that lack an opening hood, in this premium series. More profit is the motive, but it shows a disrespect for the fan base.

The solid yellow tires don't look right to me. The blue and yellow on the actual car look ok. I think if I get this release the Olds will getting blackwalls. I'm really surprised 70s Cutlasses make good derby cars. The Colonade styling is very rigid at the B and C pillars one reason GM went to the colonade styling. But I would imagine the trunk on these would be fairly weak on the 70s Cutlass, Century and LeMans. I know the trunks on the 80s Olds Cutlass are really weak.

Im still on the fence about the hearse, brown on diecast or 1:1 isn't one of my favorite colors. I'm sure Firehawk will love the Fire Injun.

Interesting how they coloured the wheels like that to show similarity to the real thing.

Overall a nice selection to look forward to not finding.

A touch of blue will solve the tire colour, and some sheet metal work at the back fenders and front fenders, not bad demo derby car at all.

My quest is the Chevy Hearse....... if I have to arm wrestle harry, I am bringing a bat!

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
Brown or tan is an acceptabke hearse color. Our rural town has Lincoln Town Cars and hearse in tan.

73-77 Olds Cutlass's are one of the best midsize derby cars out there. I took third with mine and only cause I fried my starter. But they are really strong. Anyways, here is the original preview pic I sent to Tom so this is where they got the Yellow wheels from. The JL picture could just be a prototype or even a lightning strike though. I also included an AFTER picture of the car....enjoy!

Aha! Now I see what car you want. I don't have an Olds Cutlass to work from though. I can replicate that paint scheme on the '71 Riviera or '70 Monte Carlo though. I know the Boattail Riviera is a great derby car. Or I have a selection of Mopar sedans and wagons to choose from ('68 Monaco sedan and '77 Monaco sedan & wagon) and only two decent derby car Fords ('77 Thunderbird & Mercury Cougar). I can whip any of those up in about twenty minutes. Just let me know which car and if you want it to match the real one or the JL car.

Digging through the pictures I have available to work from, I can do a 1975 Cutlass. Not quite the same as it has the scalloped sides but it's the only one I've got a good picture to work from. I can probably get that done this weekend sometime though if you'd prefer it.

As for my thoughts on this release- I love the derby car and the hearse, and I like the Firebird and Cobra. I will get them all.

I want the Hearse but I really, really, really want the Firebird. Its a shame that the 2.0 series don't come around here often as they should. If anybodys finds an extra one of the Bird please keep me in mind.

Great suggestion for Tom Z, can you give us a before and after casting? that would be so cool, except for this one, not much left after.

The front's still pretty intact, and in a derby that's one of the most important things!

It really is a great looking derby car and hopefully I will get the avacar finished up sometime later today.

I’m sort of nonplused by this release. Individually there is potential, but many of the 4 car mixes in the 2.0 series seems to come across as lacking. I think I liked the set as a whole maybe a couple of times. Usually 1 or 2 catch my eye and that’s about it from a given release.

I think the random mix works much better in the 12 car set where it’s easier to squeeze in a greater variety to try to keep the masses happy. Here, as pretty much is par for the course, 2 or 3 cars take on a racing or demo theme, which means ½ to ¾ of an average release many times. And where I have purchased several of the demo cars, only the occasional racing themed car goes home with me.

And from the average responses, it looks like the majority of collectors on the boards seem to say 1 or 2 out of the 4 are for them.

My solution, as always, is to opt for greater variety. And since most collectors would like to see more of what they like in the metal based line, why not work in some themed releases? A 4 car derby release, a BWF, factory paint scheme, BTH (or police), and of course, racing.

Not that they couldn’t do what M2 has called their “Wild Card” theme well. I just think it needs better structuring. A 6 car release would make for more of a variety. Or if there’s no way around a 4 car mix, can’t we at least see one car from various categories?

Let’s try to envision the various themes JL presents in a rotating pattern that gives us 1 car from each of the following catagories, comprising a 4 car set as follows:

1)Factory paint
2) Ambulance/hearse
3)police/BTH
4) BWF or CWF (When does JL ever do CWF these days, not to mention the entire BWF scheme dropping into limbo)
5) Demo
6) Racing
7) Spoiler
8) RWB

There are other themes that would work like road/construction, military, etc., but lets look at the 8 listed to keep it simple, and stick to what JL is mostly offering us in terms of themes and schemes in recent years.

Now, pick any 4 categories for the next release. Or simply choose the first 4, then the last four, then maybe the first two and the last two on the list, mix and match any way you like and it still works out to be a better way of getting an interesting mix for this line.

What do you think? Mix and match for greater variety, try some various rotating themed releases, or does the scattershot method we’ve been seeing work okay for you more often than not?

Nice thoughts and support Robert. Other than the NASCAR/BTH inspired versions of the '63 Galaxie I've skipped all racing releases for myself. The stuff I've bought in the 2.0 when found are general either stock paint jobs or the demo derby series. Problem is I have to drive 50+ miles in multiple directions to see these on the pegs at a TRU or order online. When the line was at WM, I had a better shot finding the all metal JLs.

I've been lucky in that what new 2.0 JLs I have not found I did eventually get via trades. This imo isn't a successful formula for a diecast brand. Of the potential series listed, I'd be up for BWF, stock paint jobs and a demo derby series.

I like the idea of all derby releases, all racing, all emergency vehicles release ect. Very good idea for the 2.0 line.
