Beautiful and in my opinion probably one of the most modest styled cars of the 50s. Definately one of the most under rated cars of the 50s.

I'll second that, I love the old Hawks!

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
I'll third that! Studebaker styling was second to none back then! And yet they didn't sell well. It's so frustrating to look back on now. :(

Support your local demo derby.

When I think of the full potential of JL, I think of the '57 Studebaker.

I am not really crazy about the 1:1 version of this car or any diecast versions either but if I ever decide to have one in my JL collection, thats the one I would pick. It really looks good in white. Thanks for showing it.

The Golden Hawk wasn't really designed to sell well. It was actually a 'halo car' to get people into the dealership to buy another model of Studebaker, a much more tamer model such as the six or eight equipped pillared Silver Hawk or one of Studebakers lesser models. It worked to an extent, though Studebaker was never going to hit Big 3 sales. But like I said the Golden Hawk was one of heck of a sport coupe for the time it came into play. A machined alumium dash that was truly aircraft inspired when other automakers were claiming aircraft styled cockpits, they weren't quite on the mark like the Golden Hawk. And of course the 275 hp supercharged 289 that even could have put numerous models from the Big 3 in their place.

The '57 Hawk was a great car from Studebaker - had a friend in the Studebaker club so often attended their meets years ago and had the opportunity to ride in one...and as I was grinning like a little kid...the owner pulled over and turned it over to me What a ride! :D I think the white version is the only one I never tracked down of the JL issues.

Great set-up for the pictures, Daniel.
I like the visual effect.
For anyone who may have spent some time watching the Barrett-Jackson auctions in the past several days, may have seen a gold coloured Golden hawk with suoercharged engine and gold/white interior cross the block.
It definitely was a beauty.
This is one car from the '50s that had great styling.

I would take a real one in any of the four colours illustrated above.

I believe I have the white one someplace, but I'm liking the other colors here as well. I've also been a fan of the golden hawk. It is one sharp looking design!

While we are on the subject of 1957 Studebakers, here's a very rare Golden Hawk 400. I believe only 100 of these were made. This one resides- or did when I visited in 2003- in the Studebaker Museum in South Bend, Indiana.

I personally feel that these are way overhyped, although not as much as the 1953 design. Many people consider that the best Studebaker design of all time, but I think it's highly unattractive, and is made worse by the fact that it replaced the Bullet Nose version, which in my opinion, is the best Studebaker design of all time.

With that said, I don't have any of these Studebakers from JL, and I would get one of them if I saw one.

The Bulletnose is another great design (as is the Avanti), and my Grandpa actually had one of the Bullets. 1950 pillared coupe (no wraparound rear window).

My first car was a '51 bullet nose Studebaker - had a sign in the window - It Runs - $50. Bought it and discovered it did run...downhill...wasn't much power left in that engine buried under years of grim and greese and who knows what else. It was fun while I had it but moved on and traded it toward a '59 Edsel Ranger. :D
