:D A 1/1th red '60 Ford wagon would look great in my driveway beside my '00 Taurus wagon! This is one of my favorite JL castings (then again I like all wagons).

Higher front end and lower rear.
Ready for winter driving (better traction) in the Great White North.
10 bags of water softener salt in the rear.
Another nice casting from Playing Mantis.

Support your local demo derby.

Love the old iron Ford wagons. Joe is onto something . . . these were part of the 1st great generation of derby cars . . '57-'64 full size Ford sedans/wagons. Wish JL would put this casting back into production for the 64/2.0 line. It's one of their best castings and the only modern issue of a '60-64 ford wagon.

I'd buy any and all reissues of this casting- a derby car would be great but I want some more woody Country Squires too!

Ford Australia made a Falcon Country Squire here too - but it totally bombed sales wise and was never repeated.

I have a few versions of that casting but can only find one pic:

An offshoot of the Ford Falcon called the Frontenac was sold in Canada for one year, that being 1960.

In 1960, Ford's Canadian subsidiary introduced the Falcon-based Frontenac. It was designed to give Mercury-Meteor dealers a smaller model to sell, since the Comet was originally intended as an Edsel, which was sold by Ford-Monarch dealers. Produced for the 1960 model year only, the Frontenac was essentially a rebadged 1960 Falcon with its own unique grille, tail lights and external trim, including red maple leaf insignia. Despite strong sales (5% of Ford's total Canadian output), the Frontenac was discontinued and replaced by the Mercury Comet for 1961.

In Canada, for the 1960 model year, Mercury-Meteor dealers sold a compact car called the "Frontenac". The Frontenac was considered a model in its own right and was badge-engineered version of the Ford Falcon with only minor trim differences to distinguish it from the Falcon. The Frontenac was produced for only one year. The Comet was introduced to the Canadian market for the 1961 model year and replaced the Frontenac as the compact offering by Mercury-Meteor dealers.

Ford of Canada introduced a new compact car, the Frontenac, for 1960. The Ford Motor Company of Canada, Limited was keeping quite a level playing field for its two dealer chains. For just about every model the Ford branch sold, the Mercury-Meteor branch had a comparable model to sell. So when the compact 1960 Falcon appeared in Ford showrooms across Canada, Mercury dealers displayed the Frontenac. It was their compact car, and an alternative for the buying public.

The Frontenac was a make in its own right--not a Mercury, not a Meteor. It was a Frontenac. Its grille had two sections with many vertical bars. Each was rocket shaped and pointed to the centre. At the centre was a chrome disc with a red maple leaf on it. This plate was attached to grillwork by a long horizontal bar on each side. A chrome dart on front fender also had a red maple leaf. Three chrome windsplits, one over the other, were near the end of the rear fender. The chrome lock and handle on the trunk also included a red maple leaf.

An interesting variation from Falcon's tail-lights used a small red lens. Though much smaller than Falcon's lights, it appeared to be just as large when illuminated. A wide multi- bevelled rim reflected the light from the protruding lens.

At first only 2- and 4-door sedans were available, but later 2- and 4-door station wagons were offered. Like Falcon, there was only one line, but DeLuxe trim was optional. Frontenac was mechanically the same as Falcon. Of course that included the 90 hp 144 cid 6-cylinder engine.

This Canadian variation was a big hit with buyers clamouring for a compact car. Over 8400 were sold during calendar 1960. That put it ahead of Valiant and Corvair. Ford of Canada's combined Falcon and Frontenac sales accounted for 5.23% of the total 1960 new car market.

Despite is popularity, Frontenac lasted only one year. For 1961, Mercury dealers got the Comet to sell. American Mercury dealers had it part way through the 1960 season, but in Canada Comet production did not begin until the 1961 model year.

Thank you.

Cobra, those are some great rides you posted. I have to say I was not a fan of wagons growing up. Probably because the only people I knew who had them were relatives that were less than nice. Interesting how those childhood prejudices effect us sometimes.

However, in recent years, I've come to like many older wagons, and the ones depicted above are enough to convert all those childhood memories into a wagon fan for life!

Thanks for the info and posts on the Frontenac! Regularly attending a car show that draws in a good portion of Canadian car enthusiasts, I've seen a lot of rare Canada-only vehicles...but I've never seen a Frontenac before. I don't think I've even seen photos before this thread.

Add me to the chorus of requesting a 1960 Frontenac/Ford Falcon. Especially a wagon! Seems like a good pick for M2- Corvair, Valiant, and Falcon.
