EH Holdens Compared - Biante v DDA

It's a rare thing to have two castings of an Australian car - so this is a good chance to compare two of them.

In the turquoise corner the DDA and in the maroon corner, the Biante:

Both are said to be 1/64 - though the DDA is very slightly larger. You'd have to run a tape measure over them to see which one is more "correct". But the difference is too small to bother me.

The lack of chrome and badging on the DDA makes it a "Standard" version.

The Biante is clearly marked as a "Special" - a version that featured more trim inside and out. The dual tone paint was an option on the "Standard" - most came in a single colour.

The front grill on the Biante looks more accurate - the raised section visible on the DDA just wasn't there on the real car.

Round the back, there is nothing in it - both are accurate to the real car:

Underneath, the Biante is far more detailed:

but the DDA ha an ace up its sleeve with an opening bonnet and some decent detail on the engine:

And there is one more thing we need to look at - and that's the price.

The retail price for the DDA is A$ 16.00 - the price for the Biante A$ 30.00. And while the Biante is more detailed, the DDA is a more than decent effort and at a far better price. I am hoping we'll see a lot more of DDA in this scale.

The Biante by a mile.
Even the wheels on it look scaled to reflect 13" whereas on the other they're like 15s with a more modern offset.

Thanks for showing these together.
I've seen the DDA in stores but find the asking price a bit too steep

The Mustang II is a Mustang too!
The Biante is my pick also. The pillars on the DDA are way too thick. I will give it bonus points for engine detail though! I look forward to seeing what other cars they'll do in the future (and I hope they fix the pillar problem with future castings).

I like them both, and want them both.....but at $30, the Biante just isn't going to happen for me. When $30 leaves my bank account for a toy car, there better be a new 1/18 scale model gracing my shelves in return.

Don't forget Pat is stating the costs in Australian Dollars; not US. As I recall the US $ comparison is somewhat less than Australian currency (?)

Patrick
I don't recall ever learning the full iD of "DDA" But only curious if these are 1:64 (?)

The current exchange is almost even- and the Australian dollar is worth just a bit more than the US dollar at the moment.

Hi Dave,

Yes, at the moment the Aussie Dollar is worth a little bit more than the greenback - so no relief in the exchange rate there.

"DDA" stands for "Diecast Distributors Australia". As the name suggest, they were Distributors only - then started some castings of their own in 1/18 - most famously, the MadMax cars.

The Holden is the first 1/64 casting, it appeared late last year. It comes as this standard version and as a Street Racer - both in two colours each.
