Thanks! I'm going to Toys-R-Us this afternoon both to look for diecasts and for diorama goodies, including something to replace the red Route 66-style building that was too large and ended up broken. Will update with a thread on my findings in General Diecast and what if anything I find for this diorama.

Temporary building made of cardboard and Lincoln Logs is up until I can get a stable, barn, shed or nativity scene building to replace the "Cars" building. After the Elmer's Glue sets I'm taking the dio to a sunny place outside and on top of a bucket or washtub so I can get accurate angles. The temporary building is out of scale, but could be explained away as temporary construction made of recycled telephone poles and junk building materials. This is Oregon, after all!

Also bought two M2s (including a Studebaker utility truck that I scuffed up, grimed up and popped the hood ornament off of, made signs and put the Bond Minicar inside the temp garage (1/64 scale pickers were begging the 1/64 scale GCU to sell them the Bond to no avail)

New junkyard building:

Tore down the oversize one and made a permanent one in scale that has an opening door and a scratchbuilt Franklin stove inside. I will later modify the cardboard roof into sheet plastic with magnets or Velcro and add furnishings and equipment to the inside of the building, which again is supposed to look like it's made from reclaimed materials.

My custom beater Studebaker shop truck:

Thanks! I may even make it fake "GCU 523" Oregon plates if I can get software to print them small enough and an Exacto fine enough to cut them properly. That Studey is the 1/64 scale GCU's daily driver.

Been doing better on anxiety attacks after yesterday, I took a nice long drive through the coastal mountains and back to town to see & photograph the small towns and abandoned stuff there, burned a whole tank of gas in the Chrysler 300M that I borrowed for the trip, enjoyed listening to Sarah Brightman on the way there and Evanescence on the way back, climbed all over an abandoned house to get a handful of usable pictures, and am getting counselling set up through my shrink as well as lots of support from Facebook and deviantART friends, I'm feeling way better.

Great work! I see some treasures mixed in among the junkers. ;)

And I remember reading about the pelican incident on Jalopnik!
same think I was thinking.

The pelican incident is ancient news, but still funny. Wonder whatever became of that Veyron? I'm guessing stripped down for parts.

Volvo 760? Maisto?
Yep. My Zylmex 760 is too nice for the junkyard.

Junkyard update: once the Christmas merchandise gets put back out in the thrift stores, the Lincoln log building (damaged by my other diorama falling on it) will be "torn down" and replaced with a repurposed wooden nativity-scene stable (which typically have a suitably junky look with missing figures and would look the part with cars and parts inside, it will eventually get 1/64 tools added to it, I'll be asking for 1/64 tools for potential gifts on my next birthday and buying GLs with tools and a two-pack of M2s with a lift for both the casting and the accessory) and the shack with the couch on the porch. Lincoln logs will be used like railroad ties or recycled telephone poles.

Junkyard has been COMPLETELY disassembled other than the permanently attached Bond Minicar & smashed/Jaws of Life casualty Alfa Romeo SZ... fell down and flipped it all over the place. :(

I will start rebuilding it as soon as I find a suitable building (planning on repurposing a nativity stable with the "straw" and figures removed as a workshop and putting the plastic office building back on it, maybe adding a fence and a guard goat or two made from Ertl farm toy pieces), right now the cars are in a box and the log cabin building completely removed. I will also be using Gorilla Glue and screws or nails to hold it to the stand it's on.

Rebuilt with a temporary building and 1990s-type inventory (all Malaise Era and older castings).

Yard restocked with some old inventory remaining.

The Sterling and MG 1100 remain in their classic positions

Employee parking. See the first car? Looks like Elwood Blues had to take a job here to help support the band.

Rebuilt the junkyard in much smaller form at my new place (like a side business to my import car shop diorama selling parts and the occasional project car), will be changing the inventory regularly, and added my Tomica gas station to one end with a possible Tomica pizza shop eventually added as the final building.

juantoo3: Your old YOT boxvan will not be a "junker" vehicle, more so a movable parts-storage building like many junkyards use.

Looks good. You've managed to fit a lot of interesting bits into what looks like a fairly small footprint.

Thanks, FXE. :)

I might be buying some "25-cent specials" this evening, so that might add more cars.

New junkyard pics! Autumn-esque lighting/"sky" conditions and a slight redo

Loading up a junker Mk1 Accord hatchback to go to the scrapyard since there is no room for a crusher and crushing cars would be an annoyance to people on the other side of the railroad tracks from the junkyard:

No idea how much longer it will remain this way since I will be moving at some point and may have to relocate it to the plastic shelf my "downtown" diorama is on now, which is a good thing since it means a bigger junkyard on a more stable setting.
