Not only does the dio itself look great, the weathering on cars and overall the quality and rarity of your castings is outstanding!

Had to tear down my old junkyard dio when I moved, and built this semipermanent one (will be partly replaced by a building supply yard with the junkyard in the back, in my TV stand. Plasticville trailer will be replaced by a Greenlight Breaking Bad motorhome or a Road Champs Winnebago Chieftain, and placed with the 2 other trailers from the Plasticville kit.

Building new & better. Gonna PM Gunn with instructions on how to build a crusher (I know someone who can build me one for free given directions for it, but it'll be a John Deere-powered crusher instead of Caterpillar like Swifty's)

Dedicated one of a couple of coffee tables here to my new junkyard dio...

For one, got this building set (shed will be placed sideways along wall, lean-to next to it to hold "rebuildable salvage" (JL PiPs, Greenlight rusty Impala, possible "unclaimed tow-ins" and Jada 4Sales), and that area used as combination garage, tow yard & scrapyard. Should be here the 17th of October.

Posted Image

Also gonna build a small guardshack and scrap scale to be built onto the shed, and possibly a "sanctuary" like I've seen in high-desert junkyard pics that would have a cooler, furniture, a radio & whatnot, Goodyear trailer is going away, and I'm replacing the bulky Bachmann house trailer with a Road Champs Winnebago or (ideally, and once it comes out) a Greenlight Breaking Bad RV, and am gonna get a Greenlight modern truck with flatbed trailer soon too. Lastly, gonna upgrade to an Ertl Collect & Play Toyota forklift over the junker HW Caterpillar forklift in these pics. Once buildings come, car placement and decision on what to "specialize in" and what to put in the tow yard & scrappage area will be done

Sign (some graffiti airbrushed out)
Posted Image

Threatening sign due to high school kids incessantly tagging the sign and fence, tinfoil-hatter graffiti & handbills, and parts & metal theft, postman arrives:
Posted Image

Overcrowding. HO-scale guard shack, most cars and Goodyear trailer are going bye-bye
Posted Image

Owners' humble abode at the edge, lots of cars as "yard art" (Dauphine and Cutlass are only ones roadworthy, Reliant Regal has seized engine, 4CV hasn't run in almost 40 years, Volksrod was declared a "dangerous vehicle" by police). Listing trailer to be corrected when buildings arrive.
Posted Image

Lost in a sea of anarchy. Many cars to be pruned out and forklift to be upgraded to Tomy or Ertl late-model Toyota
Posted Image

Guard shack. Too small and to be upgraded with a scrap scale added too
Posted Image

Junker VW Rabbit brought in on a rollback (still don't know marque? Gonna guess Bering but not sure?), beat-up Chevy G20 errand/delivery van also visible (Darnell's has exclusive contracts for rebuilt parts & engines and other parts for out of date/hard-to-find cars for a number of shops in town)
Posted Image

More work to be done. Especially landscaping that I can lose a few cars in trees & shrubbery, have big rocks, etc.

Ertl buildings should come Friday or Saturday... those will be weathered & lightly assembled, I'm also planning on landscaping a piece of heavy cardboard about 6 inches bigger to each side with trees, rocks, shrubbery, etc. (some shrubbery and trees will have cars "buried" in them), am having a simplified and non-movable. John Deere version of Swifty's crusher made, and am gonna make a guardshack (possibly including minifridge, microwave, coffee cup, chair on pole for sure, possible barred windows and/or car windshields as "windows" and opening up to the shed, from secondhand and , a scrappage scale from Lego as well, will be adding towing (I have 5 tow trucks), scrappage and rebuildable salvage to what was previously just a junkyard, will eventually upgrade to a Tomy/Ertl Toyota forklift, and Greenlight or Road Champs 1/64 Class A RV instead of the bulky Bachmann singlewide in use now as "owner's quarters"

After the clearout and preparations for construction, and before construction & the rains coming... junkyard crew and their 21-and-over, late-night cookout.

Posted Image

Soon, construction will commence and the lot will be expanded upon further. I'm in the process of selling art to a local bakery & cafe and possibly will put part of the proceeds into this diorama

An actually nice house lurks behind vandalized tin fencing. The Toyota van is an ongoing project that the decals & rear door paint will be carried out more neatly on and dirt tires (including nose-mount spare) added, plus possible accessories.

Nice diorama ! Love the catapult, it makes a nice anachronism.

Where did you get the figurines please ?

Thanks Sergoids. Figures are 1/32 scale Homies and were gifts from 2 different people as well as a big bag for $1.99 USD at a thrift store. eBay or Amazon are your best bet, but Homies *are not* cheap

Again, the catapult comes out to the Renaissance Faire and Halloween Festival on the rollback just for fun. ;)

Ertl buildings come today or tomorrow and a barn-raising happens. Gonna look for junk Lego for the scrap scale and guard shack to be built onto the shed this weekend.

Junkyard finished. Just gotta add the crusher, scale & guard shack and find a better place for the tow trucks.

Frontal:

Tow trucks, late Yat Ming 1000-series Chevy "errand truck", forklift, junkyard
Posted Image

Yard and rebuildable-salvage shed. Gonna get more interesting cars to fit my theme of "parts & service for old, outdated or hard-to-find cars" as well as projects for sale.
Posted Image

Aerial view. Note yard owners' nice house alongside, Christine lives in the garage to leave the owners' '54 Dodge Royal out in the weather:
Posted Image

Sign with obvious Christine and Tommy Tutone references, heavily vandalized by high-school kids and alumni of a high school graduation that got ugly fast, road name is inspired by the old CARtoons comic books, and in creative writing in school, Krass Road started out as a four-lane city street, passed an obvious Dixie Square Mall ripoff, then went through blighted urban area, then a fork in the road with one way going into town and Krass Road going northeast as a 2 lane road, and eventually went off into no-man's land.
Posted Image

Estes Great Garage incorporated into shed. Here be Darnell's Auto Repair
Posted Image

What's a great junkyard without a food truck or two?
Posted Image

Will update as I get the Lego work done and get JL PiPs and Jada For $ales (coming from the FB group for diecast I am admin on) for the lean-to along with better junker cars.

Darnell's Towing brings in the wreckage of a 1984 Chevy van that a bunch of drunken farm kids thought would be fun to take off-roading. Driver and all occupants pronounced dead at the scene. Darnell's *just* got its first rollback, so hasn't taken the old company's name off the doors.

Offloading the wreckage:

Gonna have tons of fun with this diorama, this thread, my camera and various cars. :toy:

Thanks! Working more on it, gonna try to get the shed so it's not leaning, and build a crusher, guard shack/office & scrap scale (will all be painted too, with cardboard over the bumpy roofs) from secondhand Lego.

I also had the Road Champs Riviera 'vert in my salvage yard. It made me smile to see one in your diorama. Great work all the way around.

Nice to see you back, David... Rivi didn't survive my move across town... :(

Decided to rebuild *again* so I had room for a tow yard, Lego crusher where tow trucks are and overgrown area at far left, and a Lego scrap weigh station by the tow office. Gonna be the final rebuild, at least while I live here.

Gas & diesel tanks... need to fix frame on gas tank
Posted Image

Employee parking. Owner Jason McCoy's '76 Caddy (his father Jerry Riggs-McCoy bought out the business in 1981 after Christine killed Will Darnell and the police investigation wrapped up), Christine clone driven by tow truck driver Mike Commodore, tow truck driver Rhett Warrener's Volksrod and mechanic Aaron Lines' Olds Cutlass (names taken from video of Paul Brandt's cover of the C.W. McCall megahit "Convoy" and Jerry's name a pun on "jerry-rigging" things to barely function). Parts puller/small parts rebuilder 1/64 GCU has Toyota 4x4 diesel camper van in Darnell's Garage getting the diesel injection pump replaced (custom thread coming once finished, need to make decals and few other things)
Posted Image

Tow trucks. Aaron has his pick of all three but prefers the rollback. A drive-thru scrap scale made from Lego and parking space for a Tomy or Ertl Toyota forklift will be added near here and American flag moved.
Posted Image

Rebuildable salvage shed. Gonna fill it with smaller sized (Town Car and Fleetwood) Jada For $ales and JL PiP cars along with the Playart Roller.
Posted Image

Junkyard. Trailers will be removed, and a forested area with cars (including the JL short bus and LaTroca cab) "lost" in the overgrowth

Minifigures, landscaping, assorted junk and whatnot will be bought and tow trucks moved to the side of the scrapyard. Which will have the crusher and scrap cars cordoned or barricaded off

Things are taking shape. I love the catapult as well, BTW. One of those unique finds you seem to have a knack for locating. The little touches in the grungy auto repair and the gas and diesel tanks are all nifty little touches.

Thanks! Hoping to find some pylons, barricades, etc. and maybe a used, partial Lego Creator bucket to build the crusher and guard shack
