Crazy Matchbox guy
Direct from Shabbir, the current Ambassador....

Here is the 2012 official Miniature List provided by Mattel. There are 12 segments of 10 models each for a total of 120 models. In addition, there are five re-colors making it a total of 125 variations to look for. Also, we know that some unplanned variations pop-up here and there. Hence expect over 125 reasons to add more models to your collection this year. As previously mentioned, the line is the same for all markets (US, Europe, LAM, etc), however, the release of models could vary depending upon the market.

This list consists of some new, some old, some generic and some licensed models. You will also see the return of some of your old favorites. For example, Viper GTS-R, Ford GT, & London Taxi just to name a few. Then you will see some of the new castings that will be a hit not only among the Matchbox collectors but also among the non-Matchbox collectors. This includes Classic Seagrave Fire Engine (Wait till I share the picture of this model with you). The Police Motorcycle will be very popular among the emergency collectors. Overall, I find this to be a great lineup.

Now just some of the housekeeping items:

  • Feel free to distribute this list to fellow collectors, club members or any Matchbox sites you want
  • Since the list is provided by Mattel please give all credit to Mattel when sharing this information
  • By all means raise your concerns in a constructive way.... Absolutely no bashing

More updates to follow soon.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

It is good that Matchbox has finally gotten the list out of the 2012 models. I am looking forward the Buick Century Police Car and the Seagrave Fire Engine - looking forward to the time when we can see pictures of those models.

I think, all things considered, we got the best mix of models possible for this year.

I still disagree with the tampos bogging down a number of otherwise nice models (especially the Shelby convertible- they finally do it my shade of blue and it gets ruined with tiki tampos!) and I also have issue with the repeated themes (mountain & arctic are rather similar...island & beach....etc.). I'm just thankful we ended up with some real cars this year when the original plan would have had nothing but trucks and emergency vehicles.

All I can do is be optimistic to 2013. I think the brand is still in good hands and I think once this new direction fails to help Mattel's bottom line we'll see things go back to normal.

All,

Here are recently provided pictures from Mattel exclusively for the collectors. I appreciate Mattel/Matchbox cooperation.

Some housekeeping reminders:
Feel free to share these with fellow collectors, club members, post them on bulletin boards etc.
These pictures are provided by Mattel so all credit should go to them when distributing/sharing these pictures
By all means raise your concerns but please behave and avoid any bashing. These are only toys
These are pre-production models and by the time the production model comes, there might or might not be any changes so please keep that in mind when comparing these pictures with the actual production models.

Now to the pictures:

First, here is the first look at the Seagrave Fire Truck. An absolute beauty. I bet the emergency collectors will have a blast. This may be a tough one to find.

Second, A new Police motorcycle. We have not seen a motorcycle in the line in a long time. Definitely a cool looking model. It is BMW R1200 RT-P. I do not see any stand but the wheels are thick enough that the motorcycle stands on its own.

Third, This is the new 4x4 Scrambulance formerly known as the 4x4 Ambulance. While it has wildlife graphics it is meant for both animal or human transport. Graphics are still being adjusted. The blue ink used on the gorilla will be darker on the production model.

Fourth, This new item is the Tracked Missile Launcher for Real Working Rigs. It has working treads, a rotating turret and missiles are removable. It is awesome. An excellent model for the military collectors.

Next are some new 2012 segment deco’s. Reminder again: pre-production pictures - actual production models could be different.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
There's a number there that i am interested in....most for just the casting itself and and doing some repaints.
The fire truck is a winner! I welcome the new 2011 Charger, Explorer Police version, '56 Buick, motorcycle, WRX and welcome back the Austin London Taxi.

SWIFTY, I counted FORTY vehicles in the line-up that are 4x4 or similar, vehicles used for rough or sandy terrain. Some are NEW castings, so they are on a kick with all terrain type vehicles the past few years. They have to put them somewhere, so thus all the similar segments with similar vehicles.
I hope for 2013 they will reassess this imbalance in their vehicle lineup, as these type vehicles (along with the heavy construction types) have become peg warmers here and block new stock from arriving.

DAVID, I know how much time and work it takes to provide pictures and information to us, and you are quite thorough in your efforts. I appreciate what you do very much.

Nice list. I am especially interested in both the Ford Police Interceptors, the Subaru and Mitsubishi police cars, the Aston Martin DBS Volante and the BMW Z4. I hope I find them soon.

Okay kick that Subaru out of the list. It has 'useless' white colored wheels which ruin the car. Anyways, here's what I found while I was searching on the internet for new MB releases -

I had two already of the L200 under Construction series. The Lancer EVO police car is hard to find here in our local stores unless they have batch releases of these cars.

I've only seen 1 Lancer EVO police car, and I bought that one.
It's the Policia version
