Nice. I quite like this. I wonder if I can find it for less than $3 online. Good score.

Support your local demo derby.

This is from a recent Hot Ones release I think Justdavid. Last year in the Decades series this model was issued as a reworked Bandit era Firebird.

Yes it is a new release Hot One and I never pulled the hood open on my decades version that you pictured, Crafty.

Very nice, I think this is the best paint scheme I've seen on Hot Bird.

And, since I've got this one I can take an '81 Camaro, and my non-opening hood Hot Bird and make a Firebird racer to go with the Camaro.

New casting? Quick! Take it apart!
The "Lost Car in China" tool is sure getting a lot of use since the tooling was "found" again.....

That's not accurate. This is a new tool, and the proof is in the headlights and the C-pillar. This one is based on the Year One Bandit Edition (they take a '77-'81 Trans Am and the result comes out like you see here). Notice the headlights are one piece units instead of the quads that the regular car would have. Also, the C-pillar is now much more accurate than the original Hot Bird's.

Not to mention that the lights and grill were part of the base of the original tooling, and are incoporated into the body of this one.

the gold lace rims don't do it for me, they give the illusion of a skinnier profile tire, thus making the wheel well look even larger than it already is.

Ahhh, thanks, Sean! Another re-tool has slipped past me.
I see what you mean by the changes. I just packed away my "Lost in China" one, but I have a 2006 Classics Series 2 version with me*, and the headlights are part of the base with no front rivet. I looked at a bunch of photos from S.Texas Diecast, and the headlight area was still part of the base piece until maybe more recently. So the re-tool is not that old.
In fact, they may have done several tool changes from what I see....the base was apparently modified for the one I have, so they may have done some retooling right after the molds were found in China. A mold line on the front fender near the marker light is also gone.
I'm sure the cars shown here are a result of several changes. All very interesting.
Is there another HW Firebird casting like this under a diff name than "Hot Bird?" I couldn't find one at S.Texas Diecast.
UPDATE -EDIT: There is a casting copyrighted 2007 which showed up in the 2008 Modern Classics series, "77 Pontiac Firebird T/A." This one just appeared again in the Boulevard Series in black with gold wheels. I just opened mine up that I bought last week, and this Firebird is a loser....wide and "chopped" look. Ridiculous windshield (it's even cloudy), lots of bad contours, etc. I'm sorry I bought this version.
I'll stick with the "Hot Bird" retool. I'm going to buy that yellow version Dave shows at the top.

*This is my Series 2 Classics from 2006
